How to Configure Sharing w/Apple Airport Extreme?

Posted by: Leatherneck on 05 April 2014

I have a UnitiServe with a Synology NAS.  I can configure a Store folder and rip CD's to it but when I configure a Share folder I can't get it on-line so I can use it.

I'm told I need to set up sharing on my home network.  Besides the Apple modem, I also have a Mac Pro.  The Mac Pro, the UServe and the NAS are all plugged into the modem.  Streaming is from the modem to an Airport Express.

Streaming from the UServe using the Store folder or a flash drive plugged into the UServe works great.  Just cant stream music in a Shared folder.

Hi Bud,

I'm 99% sure it's not a router setting or Airport setting.

First, have you changed the "workgroup" name on the nas to "naim" ??  That seems to be required.  In the latest Synology software (DSM), you can go into the Control Panel > Info Center > Network tab.  The workgroup name will be reported in there.  The default is probably "home"  You need to change it to Naim.  To change it, go to Control Panel > File Services > Win/Mac/NFS.  It's in there.

Do that, reboot everything, and I have a feeling it'll fix it if everything else is right.  If not, let us know.

Thanks Bart, that fixed the problem.  I've been wrestling with that since I got the UServe.

Bud

You're welcome -- glad I could help.  This is one of those necessary steps that I learned from others here long ago!  And I do not think it's documented by Naim -- I re-read the uServe hdd and ssd manuals and did not see it.
