Used Vinyl Stores

Posted by: bluedog on 10 April 2014

I visited Langley MIll Records in Nottingham today and it was well worth a visit. Almost exclusively s/h stuff - excellent vinyl stock with some CD's, DVD's and books. Tim, the owner, is very knowledgeable about collectible vinyl and has a 'healthy' collection of vinyl at home.

As far as the vinyl stock is concerned - very good rock, pop, country and soul selection. Not bad jazz and classical selection, with more to go in to the racks apparently. I bought 12 LP's and negotiated a nice discount off the marked price.

Worth a visit if you're in the area

Thanks Bluedog.

I've been thinking of creating a thread as a kind of directory of good s/h record shops for us vinylholics. We obviously know our local stores but it would be useful to list them and report if they're any good for when we travel to these places.

I have two very good sources in my local area.

Happy hunting.

The directory is a good idea Steve.  There is another good s/h vinyl store in Amersham in Bucks that I visited earlier this year.

That's not too far from me. Can you remember what it's called? Is it in the High Street?

I'm afraid not Steve - but it's roughly half way up the High Street in New Amersham and has big windows, so it's quite easy to spot.  The owner, as you might expect, has a good idea of the market price of the rarities. The general stock is reasonably priced and he gave me a reasonable discount for cash on half a dozen albums.

Happy hunting!

My fave in Brighton is Monkey Music Emporium, Baker St. In the North Laines there are many others too, Punker Bunker if thats your thang, One Stop over Wolf and Gypsy in Sydney St are both worth a visit. Others include Across the Tracks and Wax Factor but I usually walk by them, if I do go in it will be for a specific reason rather than a mooch. Numerous charity shops too.

Monkey has a nice selection of classic s/h gear, often some proper FE kit too.

Bluedog,

Thanks. Stu sent me a link to the shop.

It's appropriately called The Record Shop. Here's the link,

Julian,

I can see a day by the seaside looming. At least I won't need my swimming costume on Brighton beach.

That I can certainly understand. Don't worry I don't want to scare the natives.

I visited Lewes today for a coffee and a walk about; charming town, but the real find was Si's Sounds at 4a Station Street.

Excellent stock of pop, rock and some jazz vinyl; Si is very selective in the stock he buys and certainly all of the records looked at were Excellent to Near Mint.  Pricing is fair and on a purchase of 4 LP's I was able to get a worthwhile cash discount.

Highly recommended if you're in the area.
