New to Naim and Audio Streaming

Posted by: saltbrrok on 15 April 2014

Recently replaced an antiquated HiFi system with new kit centred around a UnitiLite and I am completely new to audio steaming

- audio files currently held on a MacBook Pro - how do I get the UnitiLite to talk to the MacBook? I've found UPnP Mac software eg Asset UPnP Mac, Playback, Minimserver, Twonky Media Mac and Playback, + others? Have no idea which one to go for - recommendations please!

- plus recommendations for a NAS drive which will talk to both the UnitiLite and the MacBook

Love to buy a UnitiServe, however, at present £ pain threshold is too great

Asset seems to be the only one recommended by Naim - there's a post from Phil Harris on this somewhere.  I've no idea whether there's a version for the Mac.

You can get a version of Asset that will run on QNAP NAS devices - that way you wouldn't need the Mac switched on to play your files.

Welcome!  Your initial questions are some of the very questions everyone starting off with streaming has.  You'll find lots of info from browsing the forum here.  And lots of help from folks who have walked in those same shoes.

i have a qnap nas which works well with twonky (it doesnt for some), once all setup its a great way of storing your music/movies/photos etc, sounds great with a unitiqute.

welcome, and if you need help theres plenty on here.

Bart & Longmanjon,

Thanks for your responses - I now have a good solid starting point to work from! At least I am now on the correct soccer pitch.
