Backup from Unitiserve to NAS

Posted by: Stover on 17 April 2014

Could anyone explain how to do this. I have been through the manual, but I must admit I don't understand what chapter that refer to this.

I have a Synology NAS connected to the network. When I enter Userve software from my Mac, I cannot find the NAS.

Second, I cannot log into my NAS either because the IP adress probably has changed (the link in favorites doesn't work anymore). I guess I have to change some parametres in the NAS setup?

Is there hope for me as well?

Hi Steinar

Welcome to the nightmare world of backing up from the US to the Synology.

I went through this pain last August. Look at my thread  'Synology question' from last year and all will be revealed.

Set the IP address for the NAS, then you'll know how to find it as the starting point.

Once you get there (don't smash any plates while getting there) you can set the automatic differential backup in the DTC and it will work like a dream. It's getting to that point that is the challenge.....

Steinar,  there are some threads here with explicit instructions.  HH has directed you to one; I've posted some instructions from time to time too.

Step #1 -- make sure that the "workgroup" of your nas is set to "Naim"  and not the typical "Home"  The workgroup must be Naim.  I've posted not too long ago exactly how to do this on a Synology nas.

You'll get there!

Wow, great post Steiner, just as I'm considering buying a Userve and have a Synology 411.

I am geek less about this technology, love my system but the iTunes/Synology has me very frustrated.

Is there an advantage to to installing a Serve or SSD unit? I have an ND5xs.

Sorry to tag onto your post, but any answers would be much appreciated.  I'll have to have my local Mac guy do all of this.  I'm bald and don't have enough hair to pull, or Maalox for my stomach.

Holy smoke, I've just read N's thread. I have a dealer to ask for help, luckily.

I wonder, do I also have to set the router IP adress to fixed, or is it just the router information that I need to write down, to use for setting fixed IP adress in the server and NAS?

I also know how to connect to the server from my Mac. I simply find the IP adress in the n-stream settings, but how do I enter the NAS? Yes, it's that bad

Yes, CDS3 is to complicated compared to NDS, when Userve is administrating the music.

Networking has it's weaknesses though, still, I can live with the no backup risk until it's fixed.

That said, CDS3 is great also.
