UnitiQute2 dropping connection with Synology UPnP

Posted by: Professor Fink on 18 April 2014

Hello everyone... I'm new here!

I purchased a UnitiQute2 and some Tannoy DC6 SE speakers last weekend and I'm getting there with all my setting up!

Been reading this forum and the Synology Knowledge Base to try and get sorted.

I have one key problem. I think my Uniti is losing connection with my Synology DS214Play in some way. Quite randomly it will be playing and then stop. Momentarily it tells me its 'connecting' then it says 'Play Stopped' You can go straight back in and play see all the music files, but as you can imagine it really spoils the enjoyment!

On the Synology I've turned off anything like transcoding, HDD hibernation, security anything I can think of that may be interfering.

I'm playing ALAC files stored on the DS214, wired across a network using the n-stream App on an iPad Air. My ethernet is all wired and is connected via a Virgin Media Super Hub. I have no issues using internet radio or with streaming via an Airport Express or playing files via USB, its just the Synology.

Would any one please be able to give me any pointers to where to look next for a solution or have you encountered similar?

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Simon

Others here have more experience with network issues but you might start by assigning a fixed IP address to your synology NAS.

Thank you, I had read about doing that on another issue, so noted my IP address, see if it changes when I have the problem... won't have to wait too long to check it out! Will try fixing the IP through my routers software.

Thanks again for your help.

The Virgin Media super hub isn't the most reliable piece of kit. Perhaps that is where your problem lies.

Thank you, I had read some posts about this.

Still need to go find time to go into the hub and se what I can do.

An update on this...

Seems to happen once or twice when I first begin using the  Synology and then it works fine, unless I leave it for an significant time and then it follows the same pattern!

I found the Vigin SH to be unrelieable, so now only use it as a modem, and installed an Asus Router, which i've found to be very reliable over the last 12 months.

I also found that specifying IP addresses in my router for my NDX and IPAD helped overcome some of the cannot connect to server errors I initially experienced.
