I'm confused.

Do the band own an archive containing hundreds of carefully catalogued tracks.

Or

Do the band own a vault full of tapes strewn about the place, that took 2 1/2 years to find.

Lets hope they're available for FOC download.

Page is apparently been sorting them out. No idea who owns the copyright but judging the way Peter Grant had control of the band , I'm  sure they were in safe hands.

Thanks for the link Tony.

These are forward samples of the extra tracks that will appear on the LZ1, II and III reissues in June. If you want to download them, you'll have to pay for them either on iTunes or Quboz. Led Zep don't do free.

There are a couple of trax up on the net at the moment. The alternate version of Whole Lotta Love and also one from the Live Paris disc that's accompanying Led Zepp 1

Great unlapitaded  cut version as Ewe stated above:

About two weeks ago I was able - via a copy-protected watermarked stream - to listen to all three albums (the original plan was to listen at Warners HQ in Kensington but the Tube strike put paid to that).

First of all, the extra material. It's all very good, some of it is bluddy great. Most of it I had on bootleg, but it will be great to have it in pristine quality.

The two tracks that had eluded the bootleggers, "La La" and "Keys to the Highway", are fantastic. The latter sounds like an ancient country blues, with Percy's voice going through a Leslie speaker (I think); the former is a terrific organ-led instrumental, a bit Winwood-esque, and was obviously left off LZII because it didn't fit in, rather than for reasons of quality.

In my opinion, the extra stuff is essential.

As to the SQ question - well, it was not easy to tell, but I think anyone expecting another "Mothership"-style cock-up can rest easy - these new masters (the first three anyway) don't sound brickwalled or like casualties of the Loudness Wars. They sounded clear and dynamic to me.

Of course this was a digital stream so I've no idea what the vinyl is like (nor could I get a definitive answer as to whether the new LPs were analogue mastered from the original tapes, or 192/48 digital files) but I was told by someone who had heard test pressings that they were very good.

On another note, Page is holding a press conference/listening session in Paris on 21st May, which will be available for streaming on the night via the official LZ YouTube channel.

Also the BBC is repeating its excellent "Led Zeppelin at the BBC" documentary here.

Entered a free competition on Amazon for a stay in Paris and tickets to attend the listening session on 21st May.

I live in hope.!

So am I Graham! I have also begged and grovelled to the lovely people at Warners to be allowed to go as part of the Press contingent but I fear my pleas will fall on deaf ears...

Thanks for the comprehensive  update, Kev.  Good to know the old fart(Page)is moving his arse. Now, where is Percy? Just collecting royalties I suppose.

BTW, don't beg, you're old enough to steal!

Good to hear from you,

Tony

Talked to an old mate of the forum yesterday who's been given a set of prerelease promo CDs. He's happy with the CD quality but is reserved about what the vinyl will be like.

Don't say that !

I've pre-ordered the buggers.

My hunch is, that unless you have first UK pressings, 70s Japs, or the pricey Classics, and you are not seeking to mortgage your house, you are unlikely to get better than these new masters. And don't forget - nobody on here has actually listened to the vinyl yet.

All we've had is a lot of griping about stuff nobody's actually heard (it's even worse over on the Hoffman forum ).

I only have Physical Graffiti and Presence on vinyl.

Bought them on first release.

That's why I've ordered the re-issues.

Thanks for your reassurance Kevin.

p.s. Just remembered I have the Mothership vinyl box set, but best not say anymore.

No, it's not good (although the CD is even worse). Nice packaging though.

Good news on the vinyl pressings is that they will be done at Pallas in Germany, one of Europe's best pressing plants.

Not sounding good! After what I have just read on another forum, typical JP remastering apparently

Graham.

Wasn't he the voice on the other end of the Rhoda intercom?

Very funny, very dry.

That's the one Graham. I've spoken to Stu a few times since he received the new Led Zep CDs and he's of the opinion that the SQ is dire. As he put it it's a Heartbreaker. I'll keep my order in place to see what the extra sides are like but the anticipation of some good quality music has waned. Why couldn't Jimmy Page taken on board the criticism of the previous poor quality reissues like Mothership and Celebration and realise he's now tone deaf? I wish someone like Kevin Grey could do the remastering. I did predict the would probably be poor on an earlier Led Zep thread. I'm sorry to be proved right.

Steve

Now where have I seen that quote before somewhere?

However I don't have the extra tracks nor the I, II,III, on vinyl so I think I'll stick with it.

Thanks for the tip off though.
