New Naim Muso anyone?
Posted by: Tog on 24 April 2014
Following Naim's slightly anticlimactic unveiling (you can overdo the marketing tease) the Muso wireless speaker looks interesting enough...
Would love to know if like B&Os A9 you can run them as stereo pairs.

What Hi Fi is saying "A new control app for iOS and Android devices will be available from September 2014, giving access to thousands of internet radio stations."
£895, according to what Hifi.
It be interesting to know how big it is.

They should have called 'Statement' - 'SUMO'.......MUSO & SUMO. The Little & Large of the audio world.

For what? The e-mail I received was uninformative (to be charitable) and the link they included was equally worthless.
Does this mean I can stream music from my HDX and therefore skip my SuperNait and speakers?
Sounds interesting!

One wonders how a company that produces such innovative and world beating audio products ends up with a marketing partner that produces such underwhelming and annoying (some would say customer averse) adverts. Or maybe I just don't 'get it' ?
But Naim needn't worry, the product will sell itself despite the advertising
It's Focal's influence. If Statement was to give the finger to the other hifi manufacturers (Naim : Bentley : Finger...) then Museau* is just to rub their noses in it.
Sorry...
* museau = snout

Or stream from any device that has wifi, Ethernet, BT, Airplay or optical....
I think it's a shame it's not called the Mini Statement. Another marketing opportunity missed......

Well, at least they are they are thinking of propers "names", the statement might have been called to 559, and the sumo 558?
I think the Android app (finally !) might be the most beneficial part of this announcement.......

Totally agree. Got the email and visited the web site. All I saw was a partial picture of a statement like device and that it would be available in September. No full picture, no specs, no prices etc. Total anti-climax.

How about "understatement"?
To get any market share from Sonos it would have to trounce the sonos offering in a showroom demo. I expect that it will do so.
I don't expect Sonos to keep still either.
But like what the moral of the story of Nick Lauda as described in the movie Rush, competition is what keeps everyone at their best.

2 feet long. Can't recall the other measurements.
I just bought a UQ2 recently so don't think I'll be buying this but it looks pretty impressive for the price. Good luck to them.

Is there an option for a wireless sub-woofer?
Listen guys, I am not a great Sonos advocate, I don't go around recommending it to clients, etc, but if Naim are trying to take on Sonos, they had better be ready, SQ alone will not cut it for this particular end of the market.
Hi Allen, I think they're trying to take the 'premium mass-market' rather than the 'mass-market.' I think this is a good approach. They're not going to dislodge Sonos at the Ford end of the market so they're going for the Audi end.
In 80's hi-fi terms, we're talking a Technics midi-system rather than a Bush one.
So it will be in the shop on a regular basis?
Allen, you describe the sales floor challenges in the department store clearly. It will be hard to demonstrate the benefits of better sound quality in this environment. I remember half-heartedly trying to critically listen to a Roberts Radio in one once. A waste of time.
On the other hand, if there was a comfy sofa, pot plant and Rumours or Brothers in Arms on CD to hand they would have no problem hypnotising the masses and opening those wallets
My daughter will get one when she turns twelve. Great kit for in her room!
some of the people here are bent on comparing this to sonos. A large part of the appeal of sonos is its price and ease of install/use.Install and use have now been equalled or bettered-but don't forget sons was an early innovator and deserves some credit. However a big selling point (imho) is price . sonos offered a lot for a relatively small outlay and is modular to add-on. muso (btw-hate the name) is multi room friendly (so it is adaptable).About 5 years ago,I gave my brother and nephew the basic sons set-up. I wanted them to have something decent to listen to-even though music is not nearly important as it is to me. to me sons is an affordable way to set up a multi-room system with "adequate"sq. The muso is less mass-market and supposedly much higher sq,but it is not priced as a real competitor to sonos.

Allen, I think signal quality has very little to do with it. Price, Ease of Use, and Marketing Savy are what matters here. Very few people interested in a $400 Sonos Five are going to suddenly decide on a $1,500 Naim device just because it sounds better.
The real question as benjy alludes to is whether there is a market here. I would have been fascinated to learn the ins and outs of how Naim determined the market viability.
I agree Allen the quality of the IOS app will be key; it will need to be good right from the start and Sonos / BeoPlay are the new competition. I will reserve judgement on the looks until I can see one in the flesh but early indicators from Mrs Tog are not favourable. This may be a factor when Naim break out of their dealer strongholds and fight for attention in the wider market.

With all my music on a NAS it might be a nice alternative for another room in the house. However quite pricey then, and I would first need to hear it.....
