New Naim Muso anyone?

Posted by: Tog on 24 April 2014

Following Naim's slightly anticlimactic unveiling (you can overdo the marketing tease) the Muso wireless speaker looks interesting enough...

Would love to know if like B&Os A9 you can run them as stereo pairs.

Dear Fred40.

You are free to do what you like.

I shall not be selling my Naim pieces, just because a new model is being made overseas!

Indeed, and quickly before the others in this mysterious high end circle see it being sold in John Lewis in the same aisle as prophylactics, Polish food and methylated spirit.

At double the price of a sonos soundbar, this isn't even remotely in the same market.  For people in the market to buy Sonos products, $800 more in spend  is significant.  For hifi customers, $800 is peanuts.  With what is essentially a car stereo speaker system in a box, how much better in sound can Naim make it?  Double the price better?  Price and Useability are the primary concerns here.

Maybe this will work in the UK but in the USA, big box retailers like Best Buy are going out of business.  People buy Sonos off the internet.  How will Naim be able to demonstrate that their product sounds so much better that double the outlay is worth it when the market exists on the internet? If I see a Naim product stocked in any physical store in the USA ready for demo, I will be amazed.

Additionally, the soon to be released peripherals will also be priced in a different league than competitors.  Multi room and multi speaker solutions will represent a significant investment for a non hifi consumer.

The market for networked connected speakers is booming (Sonos increased their profits nearly 100% last year).  My guess is Naim calculated that there is a high end segment of this market and ripe for taking.  I hope so because the rollout/transition of production to China represents a significant investment for them.

I guess what we don't want to see is this, for example:

'NAIT XS - Mint - 'Uk Version -

Not the 'new' inferior - Chinese made examples.

I honestly believe this product is not ment for the High-end market , they know that it"s impossible to create an organic sound in such a restricted space. Besides if you look at it in its bare components. A streamer, well naim offers more High end solutions. A boxed solution, well Naim offers  more high-end all in ones. An amplifier? Naim offers High end packages. The only thing I can think off is guys wanting to show off, but don"t no anything about hifi.

Will I buy it. Can"t wait , it"s makes a hell of a tv stand  for my Pana.

I get the impression that the hifi snobs on this forum are worried that a more mass market product will devalue the Naim brand.

When they announce to people in the pub that they use Naim, they will no longer be regarded in awe, as Naim will become a brand that everyone will have heard of.

I personally don't care if Naim release a portable MP3 player, made in Timbucktoo,  my humble XS system will still sound as good, irrespective of what Naim produce...

Good on Naim... I hope you make plenty of cash out of it... !!

Personally I don"t care if Naim is made in China, but I fail to see any sensible use for the muso. It's a package of things Naim already offers and with a far better sound quality. And most of us are dying for more sensible things like  Naca6 , a streamer  in the five series, a smaller speaker, a subwoofer. and what are whe getting? Yes what actually?

You, clearly, are not the intended customer for this product. The revenue this product brings from new and some old patrons may help in the development of what it is you desire. Also it was said that there 'is more in the pipeline'. What 'more' is will be seen at some point.

As has been said, this could open up new customers to what 'real' hifi can do ('proper' Naim systems).

iI don"t think costumers buying  soundbar systems are interested in real hifi products.

Leave my profession out of this.  Costuming has been in my family tradition for generations.

Naim don't already offer a speaker with built in 3 x 75w amplification, digital crossovers and DSP.  Nor do thy already offer Airplay streaming or easy compatability with online streaming services. Nothing stopping that technology moving up the range. Think of the speakers that are possible! Linn and Meridian are both offering active speakers with digital crossovers. It's Naim's turn next, and their relationship with Focal surely gives them a huge advantage.

yes its funny to you I guess seeing Naim in a wholesale package.

Posted on: 26 April 2014 by Bart

Fred. Dude.  In the past 7 hours, you have made 17 posts about a Naim product that you do not intend to own, or listen to.  In the past 6 months, you have made . . . yes, 17 posts.  Perhaps you should email the MD directly?  We get your point.

Personally I can't wait for this product...here in NZ it is going to be the same outlay as a Cambridge Minx XI + a pair of QAcoustics Concept 20's...

Functionality and price wise very similar, but DAMN that Muso looks very cool and I am sure the sound is going to outstanding. Additional retailing will expose the brand to a wider audience and no doubt help Naim survive in the long term...

For some it will be their entire hifi entertainment system, whilst for others it will be a tidy additional room player for an existing system. I am struggling to find a down side to it, maybe the ability to run a USB attached HDD or perhaps line level output would of been nice. But as a consumer and a retailer I think it is going to be a good product. Also hope that "internet radio & native support for popular streaming services" means Pandora, Spotify, etc.... ;-)

Well i certainly  wil buy this, makes a hell of a stand for my tv. I might even  consider to connect it to  my tv

Lol, I don't know what's worse, the 'cheap' £800 product or the expensive £120k product but they've both gone down like a lead balloon with certain forum members. Naim should stick to the stuff they were doing 20 years ago and everyone would be happy, at least until they cease trading.
