New Naim Muso anyone?

Posted by: Tog on 24 April 2014

Following Naim's slightly anticlimactic unveiling (you can overdo the marketing tease) the Muso wireless speaker looks interesting enough...

Would love to know if like B&Os A9 you can run them as stereo pairs.

Lol, I don't know what's worse, the 'cheap' £800 product or the expensive £120k product but they've both gone down like a lead balloon with certain forum members. Naim should stick to the stuff they were doing 20 years ago and everyone would be happy, at least until they cease trading.

No problem, Naim has an excellent after sales service. servicing naim for, years and years.

I must say this.

Any new model will have an appeal to those who want it.

In the last year we have seen three completely new departures from Naim - I think this is a fair assessment, but may be argued with. By new departures I mean models that are not replacements for existing devices, such as the SN2 replacing the Supernait.

Statement, Muso and earliest the async USB DAC V1 ...

I imagine that there will be people as delighted by the Statement and the Muso in terms of wanting to buy them as I was to buy the V1. None are exactly budget models in their sector of the market, but I am sure that each will be exactly right for many people. Statement lives in a stratospheric region price wise, and the V1 is considerably more expensive than other competition in the async USB DAC market. Where the Muso fits in comparison to other devices of its type, I am less well informed.

However all three models bring a broadening of the appeal of the Naim Company's output. And no doubt that the Muso will serve as the best sort of advertising for Naim as well, as it is not necessarily going to be bought by the traditional hifi enthusiast. In my opinion Naim still has a long way to go before it is recognised as a maker of great and "affordable" replay equipment. I said "affordable," not cheap.

Even if the Muso may not be on my shopping list - my house is small enough for the ESLs to fill the whole place with lucid music and speech in all the rooms - I am sure that it will have its place for existing Naim customers, and for a whole new market as well. I cannot find it in myself to sympathise with the negativity that some have shown towards the Muso or Statement. Quite odd really, and not just a little sad.

Yes, as long as they have new sales to pay the bills, what happens when there are no new customers for the same old products? In business you move forward or you move aside.  New products are nothing to be afraid of, especially if you are happy with what you've got.

Thx...decided to give it a try in september or whenever the muso is coming to holland

Since it's being manufactured in China, maybe this time around, the Muso will be cheaper in the stated than in UK. :-)

Say, $1100?

Mr Fred,

While I understand your feelings, I honestly think that this is a good product.

I own a separates Naim system, but don't want a UQ with speaker wire faffing around my bedroom

I can now aspire to Naim sound in my bedroom

what's wrong with that? Nothing.

What's wrong with Naim looking for a new customer pool? Nothing

What's wrong with the Muso. Haven't heard it, but I'm pretty sure it will be worthy of the Naim badge.

of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect yours.

Fred - that's fine but give me one sensible reason why Naim shouldn't expand beyond their current customer base?

And again you speak for yourself.  As a "Naimie" (ridiculous term) I for one am very interested in something like this for our 2nd room.

Well Anxious to see the next Disney based Karaoke set designed by Naim.

This may not be the Disney-based version, but you get the point?

I was quite admiring the graceful high arches of the young ladies feet

But if you want to sell that type of gear in the US, here's your pitch man.

Or, you can generate some real press by getting this guy as your spokesman.

Now this is an interesting question. I hope so - and at the recent Naim event - clearly staff were sworn to secrecy but I noted a twinkle in the eye when I asked that same question to a Naim member of staff - so fingers crossed. If Sonos can do it then I'm sure Naim can

Is it a fair assumption that as the Muso is to have TV connectivity that it's ok for use below your TV like a soundbar And that the speaker units are shielded?

Posted on: 13 May 2014 by fred40

Since it is missing a HDMI connection it"s,not, really ment to be a soundbar.Don" t think the, speakers, are, shielded.

Would love to know if like B&Os A9 you can run them as stereo pairs.

As far as I can tell, the Muso is a one-box stereo system, quote 'spacious sounding', and Naim has developed this as a proper hifi, so no you cannot run them as stereo pairs, and with its powerful amplification why would you want to?

Not sure if they are but - are you still using a CRT (cathode ray tube) TV?

Unshielded should only be a problem with those.

Please don't try this at home.

But it has toslink digital inputs, so all you need to do is run an optical cable from your tv to the Muso. Most decent TVs nowadays have optical digital out I think. This way of connecting would have the advantage that you'll get the sound from whatever  input you select on the tv - any of  the HDMI inputs or the increasingly available streamed sources.
