Grateful Fred with Tributosaurus

Posted by: fred simon on 06 May 2014

I'm super-stoked that I'll once again be playing the music of the GRATEFUL DEAD with my good friends in TRIBUTOSAURUS three times this month: Thursday & Friday, May 8 & 9 at Martyrs' in Chicago, IL, USA, and then again on Thursday, May 15 at Wire in Berwyn, IL, USA.

I'll be playing keyboards as a core member of the band, and we'll be joined by a cavalcade of guest musicians, some of the very best in Chicago, or anywhere. The rehearsal last night was incredible ... the gigs should be transcendently psychedelicious!

I have a strong feeling that there is a substantial intersection between Deadheads and Fredheads. I could tell you stories (and maybe I will) about Dead concerts I attended in the late 1900s ... a telepathic conversation with Jerry Garcia at one gig, and an outdoor concert that lasted seven hours during which the Dead seemingly controlled the weather ... rain, sun, and rainbows all cued by the lyrics. I was there.

Anyway, I hope every single one of you can drop by ... it would be great to see you!

As always, thanks for your past, present, and future support.

Grateful Fred

These sound like wonderful opportunities. It's a pity I am too far away to attend. Have great gigs.

If you can make it to Bristol, England I'll be there!

Have a great gig - "if you get confused just listen to the music play..."

I have got the T-Shirt of your avatar, five little bears, bought it in Moab, Utah couple of years back.  So cool it freezes my arms!

The Dead are... well how do you quite sum up that band?  Been my favourite rock band since about 1970, I just love em.  I listen to some of the tribute bands, like Darkstar Orchestra and some of the groups that just sound like them on archive.org, I think Steve Kimock is one of the best on there.  Also love Banyan, Dopapod, Lotus etc.

Just amazing how many guitarists in the US were inspired by Jerry, not the case in the UK I am afraid.  Not sure we have guitarists in the UK any more, gone like diphtheria.

ps fred simon any chance the gig will get recorded and appear on archive.org?

Big Bill, one of our two main guitarists plays pedal steel as well as uncanny Garcia-style guitar. This band isn't a full-time Dead cover band, though ... they cover a different band every gig, in fully-detailed authenticity.

No formal plans to record ... we'll leave it to resident Deadheads.

I'm not sure I've ever heard a GD song. But have fun with it. And tour Vancouver sometime soon.

They wrote some great modern American folk/rock music, steeped in tradition but with a twist (to put it mildly).

I love Vancouver! Last played there in 1980, but would gladly return anytime Vancouver calls.
