Streaming from SuperUniti

Posted by: nick2413 on 09 May 2014

Hi All,

Wondered whether there was any way which I could stream from my SU to other speakers in my bedroom? Is there a device I could connect to spare speakers that would talk to the SU and allow me to use the n-stream app?

Thanks in advance.

Nick, how are you serving music TO the SuperUniti?  That is where I'd start -- piggybacking off of your server, not off of the SU which is really a "client" in the network parlance.

Hi Bart,

All my music is stored on a NetGear Ready NAS.

Uniti Qute and Party Mode, with the SU as Master gets it done.  Once you try it, you won't want to settle for less.

Be sure all firmware is up to date.

Hi Nick,

Is this the only option?  The Mrs knows that anything black with green lights is ££££££!!!!

If it's only for the bedroom, how about Sonos? Would mean the Sonos app, but that's not really a hardship compared to n-stream.

+1 Sonos. Have Naim as my main system and Sonos in two other rooms. Cheap and cheerful and works great.

I could never get Sonos to play in sync the way the Naims can.  Always heard the delay-echo.  I made a sincere effort before Party Mode was available.  Ended up wiring RG6 Line-level from room to room, which works better than advertised.

My Sonos remains boxed for possible future use.

I feel I was late to realize the full benefit the UQ brings until I added one last week:  24/96 demo at ~half the cost of a new one.

Good luck, whatever you do.  Let us know your results.

Nick2413 -  how important is simultaneous playback of the same music in two places at once?

If not . . . something like Sonos sounds right.  Leverage the server running on the nas, and just put a UPnP client in the second room.  I went with a Qute2 and LOVE it.

Wait for Muso...

All good suggestions.

I took for granted that Nick's requirements to use nStream and the SU were non-negotiable, and assumed his bedroom speakers are passive.

Muso is a good option, too, but wastes his speakers, and retails for more than I just paid for my used Qute, I reckon.

Hi All, thanks for the responses. I'm not too fussed about simultaneous playback in both rooms, I think I'll take a look at some sonos stuff, I have decided not to use my speakers as they're production monitors which are quite bulky.  The muso looks great (from what I can find out about it). Will try and find a Sonos dealer and have a listen.

You could do it if you Airplay (using airport express) into an analogue input of the SU.  The sound quality will be  but it will be in sync.  The AE only costs 99€ and the SU has analogue inputs plenty...

I'm also waiting for the Muso but I will probably go for UQ2 because I'm not a patient man...
