Offensive Article

These overpaid and superficial celebrity talking heads, privileged by a modicum of physical attractiveness, are paraded as role models for people (it isn't just women, ffs) trying to juggle employment and raising a family. I think I'm going to be sick.

Winky, it works like this: choice= remote= control! No brainer! Tell me  who is holding a gun against your head and forcing you to watch the "offending" broadcasting?

Posted on: 10 May 2014 by TomK

Doesn't bother me in the least. The only reason I've seen it is that you brought it to my attention. Couldn't give a fat rat to be honest.

I don't watch the broadcasting. But I did have the misfortune to stumble across the article and thought it a depressing commentary on the value we attach to celebrity and superficial attractiveness. An affront to the countless people who make real compromises to raise their families.

Exactly. Yet this drivel warrants media space. Why?

Because people like you draw others' attention to it. That's why.

I think you're giving us too much credit.

Sucker No 4.

The 'The Sydney Morning Herald' sounds like an appalling rag in as much as it's twee glorification of faux celebrity motherhood.

Have I seen this paper posted up on the Forum before regarding another article?

Winky, are you reading this shit on a regular basis?

I can see how it would grate though.

Jason.

Maybe too much time spent on the interweb?

Perhaps wrestle with a hard copy newspaper?

It's got a crossword, after all. A jumble. A scrabble.

Winky

I find your incessant moaning about trivia very dull and boring.  I simply choose not to read it and move on to something else.  Alternatively I could start a thread on a Hifi forum moaning about you moaning about trivia.

You see, it all gets rather pointless doesn't it.

I first misread your post as "fabulous" presenters! They'd like to think so...

But I think your point is well made.

On a more serious note, it all ended very badly for on Australian TV presenter....

Not deliberately, but in many places I have to force/click my way past the incessant celebrity worship crap to get to anything really interesting.

Jason, you have. It was the silly bint writing some drivel about how she wouldn't let her kids sit next to men on planes because all men are paedos, or some such rubbish.

Sounds like you wouldn't enjoy the pathetic fawning of most British newspapers then.

I'll tell you exactly why. It's because newspapers, magazines, TV etc want to attract as many eyeballs as possible. And hacks have a pathological need to be read. And because hacks and media organisations have a pretty good feel for what people like to read. This kind of rubbish is known as "clickbait" - it gets people talking, they forward it on, comment on it etc. Which is exactly what they want you to do.

And you fall for it every time...

It's not confined to Blighty MM. Happens everywhere - except perhaps, North Korea, where the fawning is of a very different kind.

Yes but all you are doing in threads like this is disseminating the crap still further.

True enough, but I must feast on this celebrity brain-dead nonsense to maintain my arrogant sense of moral and intellectual superiority. If I only read stuff written by people smarter than than me offering real insight into  subjects of real significance, I'd feel stupid.
