Setting back-up on HDX and N-Serve

Posted by: blythe on 11 May 2014

I have tried to set up a new back-up for my HDX.
On the set-up page for my NAS, I have created a share that I've called "HDXbackup" which is enabled and the n-serve app shows it as active.
There is nothing in the "HDXbackup" folder at all.
It's showing as enabled, online and active.
I clicked on the button "use as backup" which is now greyed out.
However, when I go to "back-up scheduler" or "back-up monitor" there are no drives or folders listed.

What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?

It sometimes is not instant.  Now that some time has passed, is it working?

There are still no backup drives listed, even 24 hours later

Have you set the access for the backup to be available to both admin and guest? I'd set up a new share, with all its name in lower case, no gaps, and then promote it to be a backup. It should then appear as a usable location for backups.

If that still doesn't work, call Naim and ask for help. Setting backups from the Naim servers does seem inordinately hard - getting my UnitiServe to backup to the Synology was a nightmare! But once it's sorted, you can set a daily or weekly differential backup and it all happens automatically. It's just that getting there is something of a challenge, as you have discovered.....

How do I go about setting up the backup to be available to admin and guest?
Is that a setting on the HDX, nServe or NAS?

I have just managed to activate the share as a backup.

I "think" I deactivated the share, then chose "use as backup". But whatever I did, they have now appeared as backups. Only took me a few days to get it to work.......

Good man, well done! It all seems a bit random at times but it's the end result that counts. Now set the differential backup via the DTC and leave well alone.

Glad to hear of the success.  And yes, sometimes this appears to be totally random.  One fusses with it . . and fusses . . . and then VOILA it is working.  Do not look back

Daily differential backup now set and I'm currently doing a manual full backup to get it up-to-date in one hit

Random is certainly how it seemed to me
