NDX and n-stream

Posted by: Tsvikab on 14 May 2014

Hi,

just got my new NDX last week. I installed n-stream on my iPad and use it to stream music from my Synology 212j NAS.

radio, cd rips and Flac files working well. When trying to stream hi-res files (24bit 96 kHz ) they will not play on the NDX. On the screen it says connecting but no music is played. The same happens when I am trying to play it directly from the NDX.

However when playing this files using DS audio interface, they play perfectly.

Anyone has had the same experienced ? Is there any solution to allow it to work with n-stream app?

Not sure what you mean by "playing files using DS audio interface."

Have you fully set up the Media Server on the Synology nas? Have you changed the workgroup name of the nas to "Naim" ?? (no quote marks)

If the media server is running, and the music is in a shared folder that the Media Server can see, you should see the music in n-Stream.

Hi,

i can see the music on n-stream, but high res files will not play.

I also have the DS audio application installed and from this app I am able to play the high res files. So my question is can I also in some way play the high res files using n-stream in order to not switch between the two apps

Tsvikab,  I've got more or less the same as you,  NDX & DS214 & I have no problems at all.

I have a number of 192 & 96KHz recordings that play superbly & show the file playing at those rates.

I have used the included Synology programs & nothing else

My installed programs that do the connections are Audio Station, Media Server & Download Station.

My nStream settings are

Auto Connection - ON

Stay Connected - OFF

UPnP Compatibility Mode - OFF

The other settings are your choice & would not cause your problem

Have you tried rebooting the DS & the switch ??

I think you will need to do this anyhow if you have not already & need to install one of my listed programs.

Hi there,

It is worth checking the DS Audio settings - I 'think' the application may be reducing the quality of the audio to allow it to stream without buffering. Check your settings in the app.

If you use the nStream app it will try and play the file without any transcoding and you could be having issues with your network bandwidth to play the HiRes files without buffering.

Hi,

Tried to change some settings in DS media server - no change.

However I copied the HiRes file to a disk on key and it worked perfectly.

Any other ideas?

thanks

Hi

On the Synology control page try uninstalling the DS Audio app.

Go then to the Synology Package centre and hit the install line for Media server. It looks somewhat illogical as it has a roll of film as it's logo/icon.

Once you have installed this app you should find your high res files on N Stream. I have several 24 bit 96 & 192 files that Media Server plays Fine.

Enjoy!
