Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

City didn't turn up for work today. I'm sure the situation will be different when the rest of the team are available to play when the Premiership starts next week. At least I hope so. Well done to Arsenal though and Giroud's goal was very well taken.

Not the start the reigning PL champions would have wanted just before the season proper begins.  Gooners' expectations will have risen but I suspect they will be disappointed when the hard-miles in the season begin. My money will be on Chelsea for the title.

Great result by Crawley to-night, don't you agree Wat?

Pretty good result for Real Madrid as well. Money can't buy love, but it sure can buy one helluva football team. Hard to imagine them losing many matches this season.

Sorry, i know Crawley Town, but no idea that Real Madrid were playing.

I think Madrid would struggle in the Championship.

Possibly OK in League Two

Can you watch Championship football in the US? i think it is the most exciting league in the world. There is no easy way to predict who will win it, but we all hope our team will.

League One matches can be very good too.

No, not yet anyway. The amount and variety of world football television coverage has grown dramatically here over the last three years, but the focus is still on the top Premier league teams. We do get to get see a fair number of FA Cup matches though.

Depends on who takes over.

David Moyes may be a good option, as we know, he's quite capable of taking a mediocre squad to mid table.

.... and take Premiership Champions to mid table.

Looks like the manager madness has started very early this season.

Sorry fatcat, I was a bit slow. I thought you were referring to Everton. It's late and obviously time for bed.

The phenomenon should really be called "Club owner madness"

I definitely wouldn't be referring to Everton. (Come on you blues).

According to my paper Pulis walked and wasn't pushed. Unhappy at the chairman's refusal to commit to Pulis' transfer targets.  Perhaps Pulis didn't think he could pull off a miracle two seasons running.  Mind you, if the chairman's priority was not to allow the club to become overly committed financially e.g. paying silly wages demanded by transfer targets, I wouldn't blame him for being cautious.  Financial health of any club must come first.

Well I was pleased with today. A  2-1 win over a Cambridge team that played some very neat passing football. And we were down to 10 men for more than half the game. Very impressed with the Cambridge no.10. A young man called Elliot who was apparently a product of the Leeds academy.  I shall be surprised if he doesn't make it at a higher level.

SFC unlucky at Saintspool. Keeping Schneiderlin and buying Tadic look to be very smart moves. Other signings look promising. 1 or 2 more to come as well apparently. Me thinks reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated.

Dave +1

re: Reports of Saints' death. I blame a London-centric media  for whom a trip to the wrong end of the M3 is too much trouble, especially when it's easier to get glamorous quotes from your big club mates.

One of the stewards at Anfield told me, "You'd give anybody a game". So that's alright then.
