Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Hadn't seen this before, MistaH. Already had a browse around and liked what I saw.  Seems to be written by proper footie fans.  Have added this site to my favourites.

Cheers guys,in particular i enjoy the selection of pics of grounds that are no more like the Goldstone ground(Brighton), The dell(Southampton) and Roker park(Sunderland). Also pics of Southern league grounds which are a world away from the likes of Arsenal and Man City.

Kevin

i`m half way thru reading Arrys book and i`m at the chapter with him as West Ham manager talking about one `Julian Dicks` saying what a handfull of trouble he was, didn`t want to train, bad influence on other team players, and not the most gentle of players going into tackles.

Like to hear you views on the guy!!

Mista, as any Hammer will tell you, Dicks is a legend! Not at the level of Sir Bobby, Bonzo and Trev, but up there with PDC, Macca and Devo.

Old Saggy Chops can do one!

One for Kevin!!

CHELSEA ARE ROBBING B..................

Last year when we went to Chelsea away our tickets cost 60 quid.

Last week we got our tickets for Rotherham away 13 quid and have just got our tickets for Wigan away in a few weeks time @ a fiver. OK i know Rotherham & Wigan aint Chelsea, but i do think they are taking the P155. How does a working guy with say 2 young kids aford Chelsea`s prices !!

I agree MistaH.  The price differential between the tickets for PL game and those of the lower divisions is not justified, though I think the London clubs seem to be particularly greedy in this respect.

I know they may argue that the economic argument of demand exceeding supply justifies such prices, and the gates would lend support to that view, but I can't help thinking this is not taking the longer term view.  When fathers take their young sons to games very often the bug bites the son and lasts a lifetime. I know my Dad did that with me when I was a youngster, as I did with mine when he was quite young. My son, now in his mid-twenties, still remembers his first Pompey game and treasures the programme from it.  Chelsea might well be pricing out many working class dads and their kids. In other words, fans that would stay with them through thick and thin, unlike the fair-weather and corporate fans who if the club dropped a division would be gone in a flash.

But then lots of owners seem to be getting into the English clubs for glory and short-termism.  German seems to have a much more enlightened policy and seem to manage very well on comparatively affordable ticket prices.

Saints are on a roll then....

Peter

After todays result i feel for you mate,as the journey from Sunderland all the way down to Southampton is a bloody long one.

I think the very least the club/players can do is to come up with the cash and repay all those who made the long journey south.

...Football eh' .....2 weeks ago we'd just beat Stoke 3-1 and looked like we were heading for mid table, for 10 minutes today we looked well organised (on TV anyway) and as likely to score as the saints were.......then ...well then the sky fell in!!

2,600 Mackems there as well poor sods!

My sympathies, Peter. Hope you don't work or socialise with any Newcastle fans.

Mind you, my lot went down 3-0 at Bury today so I'm feeling pretty fed up with footie, too.

Yes, the Blues are struggling at the moment. Hopefully they will turn it round soon. Milan to Bury in a handful of years. Oh well.

I hope so, too, HH.  My comfort through this is the gradual build of the infrastructure e.g. last week's first try out on the new training pitches, the expected opening of the new training ground next month, the return of the reserve team this season, the growing strength of the academy .  Get those things right and, coupled with the home gates, the club will rise....eventually.

If it's any consolation Peter, I'll be surprised if today's 8-0 win for Saints makes much in tomorrow's metropolitan papers. Oh dear, I must sound a little jaundiced

Cheers, Chris

If he keeps this up, and doesn't revert to type, then I guess not. Ask me around Christmas.

Amazingly no player scored more than one goal in that 8-0 win at Southampton today.

^ Pellè, according to Beeb site.

But in general, I agree, they seemed to come from all over the park.
