Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Amazing how Bayern kept possession with only ten men. But it was Hart being out of position that led to both goals.  Aguero's hat trick was superb.  So was Messi's.  A great day for Argentinian strikers.

Aguero's certainly on song which is more than can be said for the rest of the team this season.

There was also a nice 5-0 stroll against some other Germans last night..????

If he plays on Sunday then Saints defence is going to be really tested.

Premier League 3 Bundesliga 0 - that makes a change

Saints put in a good shift, first half at the Emirates last night. How Graziano Pellè shot wide from  eight yards after about ten minutes is beyond me. Local media going on about injury worries in midfield. Striker who can't score looks more worrying, to my mind.

Pressure is on for the Burnley game, especially.

If Cork and Schneiderlin are out that's bad news.

re: Arsenal's 88th. min goal; is that what you get when you pay £30M for a striker?

JayRod, Ward-Prowse, where are you?

A £30M striker and Southampton down to 10 men.

...After a defiant battling dsplay against Chelski (where we could have won) we simply couldn't cope with City last night.  Aguero tore us a new hole and is easily the best player in the Prem by some distance right now,  He even got aplauded off by 1000's of mackems at the SOL which I haven't witnessed since Tiherry Henry was some season's ago ...next up is Anfield and I haven't a clue what is likely to happen!

I didn't see the game last night but that sounds like great sportsmanship from the Sunderland crowd.  City appear to be getting their season together, despite injuries and financial restrictions, but I fear Chelsea are too consistent this year.

Well results in the PL today have made things a bit more interesting at the top (and the bottom). Chelsea's surprising defeat at Newcastle and Man City's narrow but expected win over the Toffees.  But while the gap to Chelsea has been reduced to only 3 points I'd say the biggest event of the day was Aguero going off injured with a knee injury. If that's long-term, as such injuries often are, it's a huge loss for City.  Real pity as I think he's been the best player in the PL to date.

I agree - Aguero has been sensational. Like Suarez but without the baggage. He'll be a big loss against Roma in the Champions League too.

Game ruined by Marinier!

Don't know what's the bigger shock this afternoon: the 'ammers up to third in the PL or Carroll scoring...........twice?!

Kevin will be over the moon. What a difference a season makes for the Hammers. I guess Sam has discovered what makes his team tick.

I would be if I were a West Ham fan. Perhaps Kevin is revising his view of Big Sam, or Hippo-head as he has sometimes called him?

Not much call from that quarter for big Sam aka hippo head to go now

MDS just beat me to the post

Morning G, MDS, Dr Steve

Yep, very happy with being third - it's all a bit weird. This is the boys of '86 all over again, although I'm sure we will come down to earth with a bang - I'm not going to make any predictions until I've seen what everyone else does in the January transfer window.

That said, a Top Four finish is unlikely, Top Six just about do-able at a stretch, while Top Eight is quite possible. As long as we finish above those muggy Spuds, I'll be happy.

I have MDS - but what I should emphasise that the Boleyn faithful were not calling for Hippo Head's head last season because of results, but because of the appalling gruel were were served up week in, week out. Hence the booing, back in March, of the team, the manager and the board - after we won at home against Hull.

I've no idea what happened but someone - I suspect it was a combination of BFS and the Bongo Brothers - listened to the fans and we spent extremely well (and not particularly big) over the Summer. As a result we have a very talented, motivated, hungry and together squad. BFS now has a Plan B, as well as a C and a D.

We are playing well - pretty "West Ham Way" passing when needed, and route one when needed; often, as against the Swans yesterday, a bit of both. We have Carroll back (and on yesterday's evidence, his ability to cause panic in defences is undiminished), but the good thing is that Allardici doesn't rely on him solely. The squad s deep enough for him to be able to adapt our game according to our opponents - an approach that appears to be paying dividends.

If Hippo Head (and Teddy) keeps this up, and keeps providing the fans with such scintillating entertainment, he can stay as long as he likes as far as I'm concerned.

And bonus points are due to the Dildo Twins for sticking by their man. They obviously understand - unlike the likes of Levy at Spuds - the value of stability.

While it pains me somewhat to say so, I thought Southampton looked a better side than Man U this evening, even though Man U won.  Don't think I've seen a Man U side looks so sloppy in possession (sorry Mr Dolan). Man U have RVP to thank for their victory.

That's for sure.

…. and the support from the away fans

The bonus was that I was home by 11.20 pm - as I "only live round the corner" - so much better than the 5.50 am return last Wednesday morning
