Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

So am I !

That was a pretty dire game, and a poor result. Real waste of an afternoon.

Over the past three games Hippo Head has shown worrying signs of reverting to type, with a concomitant effect on our results.

Interestingly Chelsea's apparently impregnable defence has only conceded one less (or fewer if you prefer) goal than Manchester United's sh*t - according to most commentators - defence.

But the Saints go marching on.

Indeed - if any team looks likely to break the Sky Four hegemony, and prove the pundits wrong, it's Southampton. Go Saints!

I'm suitably contrite, Saints having gained ten from the last twelve available points.

Which is lot better than poor old Pompey.

USA For Steven and family next year then.

Looks like LA Galaxy.

Posted on: 02 January 2015 by BigH47

...and then be loaned back to a Premier League team so that the Galaxy (substitute other club if needed) don't get to see their "star" player. Of course PL club don't have to pay the wages of said star either apparently.

This scenario won't happen of course.

so next season could see Saints in the Champions Lge,  Bournemouth in the Prem, and Eastleigh getting promoted to Lge 2. Wouldn't that be fun!

Nah, we should be going for the double!

I'd have to swallow hard seeing the Saints in the Champions leagues but it would lovely to see Eastleigh in the football league for the first time and wonderful if Bournemouth got to the PL. Eddie Howe has done a magnificent job for them.  I'm really pleased for him making a success of a career as a manager after his playing career was cut short through injury.

Please, anyone but Spurs Wat. My choice would be West Ham . Failing that, Swansea?

It's funny, MDS, how many great managers (from Clough on down) had their playing careers cut short by injury or illness...

Not all great managers had their playing career cut short.

Big Sam played well into his thirties.

Yes, Kevin. I have a particular soft-spot for Eddie Howe as I can well recall his comeback (sic) game for Pompey at Fratton Park after a long layoff with a serious knee injury.  It was pretty clear to the whole crowd that when he went down after his first proper challenge the injury had recurred and there was likely to be no way back.  I really felt for him then. So sad to see a promising career cut short. My own strictly amateur footie exploits came to a close through serious knee injury so I always have a particular pang of empathy when I see a pro footballer collapse with a twisted knee.

He's done a fantastic job and I look forward to seeing Bournemouth in the EPL next season...

I know that this would normally entail a 'home visit' from Saints' equivalent of the 657 crew, but I'd like to see Pompey up here in the Prem too. (Although perhaps, as St Augustine of Hippo might have said, 'but not yet').
