Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Kane went down too easily, but in fairness, Nolan should have been sent off earlier with his second yellow. Funny how these things have a way of evening out in the end.

Conceding an equaliser so late in the game is always a choker which makes it feel like a defeat.  Still, if you'd been offered a point before the game, wouldn't you have taken it, Kevin?

I certainly would have done!

How different it could have been yesterday if the ref had awarded a penalty for Joe Allen's early lunge at Filip Duricic in the box, at St Mary's. Still, Saints have to hope that it's all going to balance out over the season. Full credit to Coutinho for his goal.

Many Saints fans overly harsh on Lovren and Lallana ... but there was always going to be the pantomime villain act.

Brave second half comeback attempt by MC versus Barca. Given (once again!) the red card, it could have been worse.

Barca looked unbeatable in the first half, and that 22 pass goal ending in the cross to Suarez was a thing of beauty. Also, respect to Hart on the penalty save. I bet Messi can count on one hand the number of times he has blown a penalty *and* a follow-up header!

Odds are long of a two goal away win, but hey, at least MC has a chance.

Poor Arsenal...how dreadful...

Or perhaps Monaco was simply a better side than expected?

And oh yeah, was that really the same "Princess" Berbatov we saw at Fulham?

It really is a funny old game, isn't it?

I agree, Hook.  Given Monaco's position in the French league, I must conclude that this was more about Arsenal's poor performance.  Their defensive display was awful and Ozil was, again, invisible. "Princess" was always a goal-scorer just a bl**dy lazy one.

And speaking of Princess where is Mista H these days? I miss his contributions, especially on this thread.

Why is there a team/club or something named Young Boys ?

Posted on: 26 February 2015 by JamieWednesday

Swiss club in Bern, named to differentiate themselves from Basel 'Old Boys'

Enjoy watching some of these games at times but with sound off and the music playing.

I thought I was reading a typo in my local listings until the game came on.  Thanks for clarifying.  Hope either team is more creative on the field than off, though the current score and aggregate wouldn't

indicate such for YB anyway.

That was easily the worst performance West Ham have put in at the Boleyn all season. An utter shambles - three goals conceded from set pieces. The team looked half asleep, and i doubt if Palace will have an easier game all season.

The sooner that fat hippo-headed clogger from Dudley leaves, and takes his chewing gum with him, the better.

Didn't look pretty on TV. Perhaps if Noble's free-kick had gone in rather than hitting the bar the game may have gone in a different direction. Still WHU are safe for another season, Kevin, so look on the bright side.  More parochially, I'm pleased that Palace are on the up.

I don't mind Palace, MDS, I would like them to stay up, and I quite like Pardew, even if he is a tad self-satisfied. Now QPR and old Saggy Chops, that's a different matter...

And you're right, it certainly wasn't pretty. Palace were almost as bad as we were...

Another efficient performance by Chelsea this afternoon. Can't say I'm convinced Spurs are a top-four side.  They play some neat football at times but aren't penetrative in the final third and the Chelsea defence looked comfortable.

Good result for Chelsea at Liverpool, too.

Don't rub it in Michael! City have really lost their way this year. It should definitely be Chelsea's year.

Typical Mourinho and Chelsea negative tactics. Play 6 defensive players and look to Nick a goal on a set piece. It worked of course but as regards a spectacle pretty boring. Can understand it when playing a better team but against Spurs when your team are man for man better in every position is baffling.

Tonight it's the return of 'Pards' to St Mary's, the man who left in unexplained circumstances under the reign of The Don. And there I was thinking it was a game between the eleven men in red and white stripes against the other lot.... Apparently not ;-)

Chris

The timing was a little odd, as although Saints had not got off to a great start that season, they'd just thrashed Bristol Rovers away in game 4. But then again, you could say the pretty much the same thing when, two seasons later, they'd just about found their feet in the Prem and Don Cortese sacked Adkins.

Football, it's a funny old game!

Graziano Pellè as a lone striker not working for Saints. Not sure why RonKo won't play Long with him. Suppose he's just too insistent on his way, and expects goals to come easily from any of the front five. But they're not. Still.... a short Swiss break to sort it out. Hopefully they'll lay off the Lindt.

Nice to see Villa get some brightness into their season, winning a place in the FA semis at the expense of their big Midlands rivals (sorry, Baggie fans!).

It's been a surreal week, two whole wins and four (4) goals! It's been a pants four years of desperately poor management from top to bottom, and if I were a neutral (let alone a Small Heath or Albion fan) I'd be rooting for us to be relegated on the grounds of unspeakable dullness.

Still, can't complain this week...though the ****s who invaded prior to the end should be banned and made to attend U2 concerts for the rest of their naturals.

Don't think Villa will get relegated, Gary. Mainly because QPR, Burnley and Leicester are worse.

Until Lambert got potted I wouldn't have been so sure. A troop of performing gibbons dressed as Shirley Temple would have done better.

I suspect Tactics Tim will be good in the short and long term though, especially as Lerner seems to finally get that the club needs a proper business and commercial management structure.

Absorbing FA cup tie at Man U this evening. Real passion by both sides. Utd will feel hard done by to lose but Valencia's poor back-pass cost them.  And what an excellent performance by the referee. Calm and got all the big decisions spot on. Well done that man.
