Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Thoroughly enjoyable game at Palace this evening. A credit to both teams. Palace rode their luck a little, though their first goal, which City thought was offside, was shown to be legitimate during the half-time analysis.  After Palace went 2-0 up I thought City showed resilience and professionalism in still playing their football to get back into the game. Some teams would have folded at that point e.g. the inconsistent Spurs.  City's title has now pretty much gone as I can't see Mourinho's Chelsea throwing away a 9-point lead (and they have a game in hand).  Finally, I've never been convinced by Pardew but goodness me, he's had a terrific impact at Palace so perhaps I need to revise my opinion of him.

Your lot deserved the victory, Peter, and seem to have the sign over Newcastle these days. Defoe can be something special when he's in the mood can't he?

I see Wigan have sacked Malky Mackey tonight. Bet there's are some choice txts being sent this evening

Bournemouth did well today - after a poor start. I must check the fixtures that are left.

...He sure can and really he had to play out of position as well! Originally Posted by MDS:

Peter,

There is no doubt that your side deserved the win.  We were truly awful.

Saints 2, Hull nil. Seeing Pellè, Long and Mané on the teamsheet, for a mo, I thought RonKo might have been reading the local print media which has been calling all week for Long and Mané to be re-united, as they had been so effectively away at Chelsea, last month. Yet Saints looked weak first half and couldn't seem to capitalise on chances. Playmaker Ward-Prowse changed that after half time imo, and they eventually looked good for the points.

Never been keen the way some players celebrate 'winning' a penalty though.

Elsewhere, a darkly sweet victory for Villa at The Lane...

Cheers,

Chris

Absorbing Manchester derby this afternoon. United deserved their victory. They just seemed to believe they were going to win. City, in contrast, played some pretty football but looked like a side whose confidence has been eroded by indifferent  recent form.  Aguero still looks a class apart though.

Didn't think United would finish this season so strongly after their shaky start. It now look like second place is between them and the Gunners.

Shocking how City responded after Aguero scored the 4-2 with five minutes left to go and United down to 10 men. I say, sack all them players!

And Chelsea, despite being remarkably average recently, go marching on ..⚽️????????????????️????????????

Yep. They didn't really flow at QPR earlier today but it's often the mark of true champions that they can still grind out 3 points when under-performing.  QPR will feel cheated of a point that they worked very hard to secure but the quality shown by Hazard and Fabregas to exploit Green's wayward drop-kick was impressive.

After a dodgy first 15 minutes or so yesterday I thought United played well - good partnerships all over the pitch and with Carrick marshalling the defence until being forced off near to the end.

Fantastic atmosohere in the ground too - the Stretford End were standing throughout the game and it was very noisy.

A good result and on to Chelsea next

The wife is having to scrape me up off the floor. Wonderful performance Villa.

Woo Hoo!

Congratulations, Gary. Great result for Villa, and against the odds.  Sherwood seems to be having a positive impact. Enjoy your day at the Final. Hope you're safe by then too.

Arsenal have only beaten is 3-0 and 5-0 this season... What chance do they have?

There were Villa fans saying that the appointment of Sherwood was an embarassment to the city of Birmingham. Wonder if they'll be applying for tickets to the Final

I was going to the pub to watch Fat Sam's boys play Citeh, but I was offered a freebie at Wembley to watch Tasty Tim's Villa vs Liverpool, so I went to that instead.

I'm glad I did - it was a great game, and Villa thoroughly deserved their win. Benteke and Delph were superb, and that Jack Grealish is a real find, a star in the making.

We were with the Villa fans, Gary, and they were great, making loads of noise (in contrast to Liverpool's fans) and generally a right laugh. I was very happy for their win and they could do L'Arse if they play that well in the final.

From the sublime to the ridiculous, WHU were absolutely abysmal at the Emptyhad, judging from the lowlights on MOTD, and Allardyce's body language, slumped in his seat, chewing his Juicy Fruit like some grotesque ruminating hippo, was a disgrace. He doesn't give a shit any more, the fat arrogant cnut. Can't wait for the season to end.

Lunchtime today will see the return of Mauricio Pochettino to St Mary's. You'd be forgiven for thinking it was about the eleven men in red and white stripes versus the other lot, but oh no.

More later.

Honours even at 2-2. Fantastic atmosphere, only spoiled by some Saints fans who couldn't stop themselves booing Poch. Such is fandom. I expected no different but hoped for better.

Talking of hope, maybe some of the Saints midfielders will bring their shooting boots for the remaining games.

Hey, Chris.  Even if they don't, the Saints have had a great season. Lots of people were predicting a very difficult season when the 'big boys' snaffled their star performers. Testimony to the depth of squad, youth system, and management that they were proven wrong.

^      Absolutely right and sometimes easy to forget that.

When Spurs fans baited Saints supporters with 'You've never won f**k all' I had to laugh at their counter chat 'Johnstone Paint Trophy - You'll never win that'.

Many, many congratulations to Bournemouth this evening. What a wonderful fairy tale.  The Cherries in the Premier League.  Who would have believed it? Well done Eddie Howe and his players.

Well, whaddya know, we've got a local derby next season!

And Chelsea win the Youth Cup again, well done lads.

I'm a Bournemouth fan, my wife's a Trotter (Bolton fan not a pig's foot) so it was a win-win situation, unless it was a draw of course!
