Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Is anybody actually suggesting Blatter has offered or accepted bribes. Bribery does go on,but there’s not a lot he can do if international football associations are run by villains.

He's only the b****y President, or was, and some of the accused are on FIFA's Executive Committee!?!

You're not another relative?

Dave

So lets assume FIFA's Executive Committee members where taking bribes. Do you think people make and accept bribes out in the open, it's usually done on the hush hush.

Unless he's in the know, he's powerless to do anything.

Don't forget, there are parts of the world where bribery is an everyday event.

And which bedtime story will you be reading tonight?

Fifa corruption ? ..frankly who cares? ;-) the most important news is.....Dick is back! (at Sunderland that is) he obviously couldn't bear to leave us after all! ...so any thoughts of Big Sam (shudder) have finally been laid to rest ...there is a campaign currently running on SAFC message boards up here to club together to buy Mrs Advocaat a massive bunch of flowers for apparently allowing Dick to carry on (yes really!) with any excess funds being given to a charity of her choice.
Roll on next season!

Stoke City had there best premier league season so far and thanks to Liverpool not bothering to turn up for the first half of our last game we finished the season with a positive goal difference for the first time. I suspect I am probably the only Stoke supporter on this forum, our style of football has become more pleasing on the eye over the last two seasons so I look forward to the next one.

You must have enjoyed denying them 4th place as well

Half-time in the Champions League final and Juve are still in it.  Nice to see both sides playing in their preferred colours.  Rather hoping for Juve to score to prompt Barca to really go for it.

Barca worthy winners but credit Juve who were worthy finalists.  Tevez still a very good player. Second half was very enjoyable. Some finals have been stalemate with both sides frightened to commit. Not this one.

Roll-on the 15/16 season.......

Ups!

Posted on: 29 June 2015 by JamieWednesday

Very very bad idea!

Petr can and should be rewarded for his service big time I guess but letting a key rival take one of the best players in the country off our hands can't be a good thing!

You're probably right - for us this is good news indeed.

It also kind of evens the score regarding Fabregas, so not too much to complain me thinks.

What's silly though is him getting death threats now from some disgruntled fans. That's taking it too far. Never understood this type of behaviour no matter what club or transfer...

It will be an interesting 2015/16 season.

A long time ago, I know, but for me this is reminiscent of when Spurs were unwise enough to allow Pat Jennings to move to Arsenal.

He looks younger without the protective headgear - I expect that playing for Arsenal will cause him to

  • lose form
  • get sent off and
  • get injured regularly

Nice to see Chile win the Copa América on home soil. Well deserved.

Posted on: 05 July 2015 by MDS

Yes. Must have been against the odds, particularly after Argentina's thrashing of Paraguay in the semis. Didn't watch the final but it sounds a bit dire: Chile setting out to stop Messi etc.  But the record books won't show that so congratulations are due.  Chile were a team that gave their all at the last World Cup so I'm pleased at their success in the Copa America.

I was hoping for Angel Di Maria to be the star man and win it for Argentina - and he goes off in the first half with a hamstring injury …..

Oh well, congratulations to Chile

Congratulations to England beating Germany in World Cup 3rd place play off

Posted on: 05 July 2015 by totemphile

Yes, of course, well done to England's ladies! I completely forgot about them when posting on Chile. Beating Germany always counts for a lot in England.

I have to say, I am actually pleased for them. At least they really did enjoy third place and that's good. Often times teams don't and I think the German team would probably have celebrated it less, simply because they were kind of expecting to win it. They had their chances and didn't take them. That's football. Kudos where kudos are due!

Congrats to the U.S. team on winning the Women's World Cup!  They played a very impressive final versus Japan, and it was a stellar individual effort by Carli Lloyd.

Looking to the future, I think this bodes well for the continued development of both our boys and girls football programs. And who knows, maybe our men's team will take up the challenge of equalling this performance in 2018?  I live in hope!

+1 I drove up yesterday and saw the match in person. It really was something special. Not sure how it played on Television but it was really exciting and fun to watch.

Schweinsteiger going to Man U. What a fantastic signing. Terrific player. Mr Dolan must be well-pleased.

I could imagine that football commentators will have a difficult time pronouncing Shwine-shtiger correctly .

Good signing.  Will be interesting to see who loses the most minutes. Carrick probably. Blind too?

At last - some back up for when Carrick is injured
