Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

Enfermo como un loro, here on the south coast this evening. I refer of course to the resignation of Mauricio Pochettino.

And will Pochettino do any better at Spurs than the previous managers?  I have my doubts.  In recent years I think 'Arry was probably the manager who got most out of the players but Levy still wasn't satisfied.  I wonder whether Levy thinks Spurs are a bigger club than the one most people see.

That is the - self-inflicted - tragedy of Spuds. They want to be a big club, indeed they imagine themselves to be a big club, but they will never be so, because someone - Levy? His bosses - simply does not have the patience required to build a big club. Man Utd did not get where they were under Fergie by meddling in managerial duties, and swapping managers every few months. Nor did Liverpool or L'Arse... Pocchetino will be gone inside two years, either sacked by Levy, or frustrated by his meddling.

Levy's only real talent appears to be extracting large transfer fees by delaying sales as long as practicable.

I wish their new manager well - but if he outlasts AVB I would be staggered.

A £2M pay-off to SFC and a 5 year contract for MoPo and his staff may make Levy a little less trigger happy than in the past. And to quote Gloria Gaynor “We will survive”. Come on you Saints.

Llana, to Liverpool and Shaw, to ManU, are probably definite but I don't see the need for a fire sell. I assume the owners still want a team that can challenge in the Premiership. The value of the club won't be enhanced if they are struggling at the bottom so there needs to be investment in 2 or 3 midfield and forward players. But who will be manager.....................

Gonna call him `honest Dave`

All I know is that Gary Richardson needs the advice of the Beeb's Pronounciation Unit over MoPo's surname.

Been doing a bit of digging on the company check website. Please someone correct me if i`m wrong but i think Daniel Levy at spurs is just a bit of a front man. The guy pulling the main strings is called Joe Lewis a Bahamas based billionaire......but i may me wrong.

Daniel Levy is MD of ENIC International Ltd an investment company, sports, entertainment and media group. Levy replaced Lord Alan Sugar as chairman of Tottenham in February 2001 after ENIC bought a controlling stake in the club. ENIC is controlled by Joseph Lewis. (ref: Wikipedia)

Southampton have told Manchester United and Liverpool: Hands off Shaw and Lallana!

Southampton have issued a firm statement on the club web site to emphasise they are not going to be selling their top stars at present.

The Saints have sold Rickie Lambert to Liverpool in a deal announced today, but they have stated they have no need to accept any further offers for players.

The club stated they have received 'multiple' offers for their top stars, believed to be Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, both valued in the region of £30 million each.

But watch this space until the new manager is appointed.

I can't begrudge Rickie his success, and he's been brilliant for us. Now he's signed for his boyhood heroes, the club that released his as a fifteen year old I think, so not too shabby from a lad who, ten years ago, was putting the lids on jars of beetroot.

Good luck Rickie, and thanks.

...and today Lallana has made clear he wants away. These days it is quite difficult to keep a player who wants a transfer.

And from what "reliable" source did that information come from? He only signed a new 5 year contract in April. Agreed he could be on the way out before the start of next season but the club is calling the tune at the moment. We'll see what happens when the new manager is in place.

Lallana signed a new 5 year contract in April 2013 so still nearly 4 years to run.
