Football Season 2014 - 2015

As requested here is the new season's thread.
Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.
At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.
With 4 weeks to go to the start of next season perhaps a Chelski fan - preferably pre-dodgy Russian - should start a new thread?
Schweinsteiger going to Man U. What a fantastic signing. Terrific player. Mr Dolan must be well-pleased.
Interesting what Jamie Carragher had to say about him. Time will tell I guess...
No matter how the transfer turns out, no doubt there'll be some very unhappy Bayern fans upon hearing the news. 17 years at the club, he is Bayern through and through.
Robin van Persie being pushed out of United, poor old chap. The Mirror reporting he's been humiliated by LVG and made to train with the reserves. First, the club try to sell him without his consent, or indeed knowing, and now this. Not much love lost at that place, innit?
If true, what a desasterous end to a rather short stay. Begs the question, if he really made the right choice? He could have been a legend, now he is just the guy no one feels any love for. Tragic. Arsenal fan's won't be loosing much sleep over it though, that's for sure.
Me personally, never liked Van Gal. I think he's a right dick. But that's just me. Bayern sure were happy to see him leave, that's official...
£49m for Raheem Sterling. Is it me, or have Man City more money than sense?
Nope, it's just a reflection of the greed and "fcuk you we're gonna buy up everything attitude" of the Premier League.

I'm delighted, £49m for a player with no loyalty who can't pass or shoot is damned good business

Yup, that's money in the bank! Down here on the south coast, we thought pretty much the same think about the 27 mil we got for Luke Shaw

I can see the plus side for LFC, dayjay, though Liverpool's track-record on very expensive signings is hardly flawless, witness the stupid money paid for Carroll. That said, I was highly sceptical of the money paid for Henderson and then last season he finally seemed to look like a big player.
I just don't think Sterling is proven top player. He might turn into one but he's not there yet.

Agree, Mike, but then Scousehampton also managed to unload F. Torres to Chelski for 50 mil. Bl00dy good business that was!!
As I said above it's the "fcuk you, spend, spend, spend" attitude that pervades throughout the PL
However, we are all guilty of over-indulgent and profligate spending. I have to confess that after a couple of bottles of Hobgoblin this afternoon, I "accidently" pressed the wrong button and a couple of lengths of NAC A5 should be winging their way to Locks Heath this week. Forgive me, for I have sinned
In Chelsea's defence, Torres has great track-record, which no doubt inflated the fee. But I agree with your essential point, Mr Mole. The thing I find a bit puzzling is the manager's role in all this. While the board might want to hoover up what they think are the best players in the PL, the manger can only put out eleven and needs a squad that is balanced and has a good team spirit. I can't see how some immature 20 year-old with a big ego is going to fit into Man City's team. They have many players who have highly impressive track-records, some genuine World-class, who might have some justification in looking down at Sterling as a boy breaking through from the youth team. How does Pellegrini deal with this? Did he ask the Board to get Sterling? I have my doubts.
Mike
Mike, I agree with you. But Torres was a spent force when he went to Chelski.
It's almost as though Scousehampton are a "team too far" for Brendan Rogers. Do do remember Paul Sturrock when he came to Saints? He lasted about a quarter season, but in that time he had the best win-lose record that SFC had had for several years! Apparently he couldn't handle the "stars" like Beattie and had a breakdown.

What a waste of money. Now watch Brenda waste it too. Southampton be afraid - be very afraid.
What intrigues me is why did Citeh pay so much when no one else was even interested.
Mr Mole, I suspect your naca5 will prove better value for money, over a longer period of time, than Man City's purchase of Mr Sterling. £49m would but you a lot of really great foreign players who have proven themselves at a high level. Hopefully Rodgers will buy one or two of those rather than ten Southampton players and we will benefit from the deal

Well NAC A5 is hardly profligate in speaker-cable terms and Hobgoblin is mighty fine beer!

We've already applied to the Football Association to change their name to Scousehampton.

We're thinking of moving the whole team up there
Or North London. Mr Levy - another how likes to splash the cash on questionable 'talent' - seems to have an interest in Soton's squad.
The price for Morgan is 25 mil. ManUre dipped out and got Schweinsteiger instead. Clyne has moved north to our B team, and the Spuds have got Alderweireld, which was a shame, but not much we could do about that as he was a loanee.
But my biggest fear was that RonK would move. Look what he did last year, 90 mil out, 60 mil in. £30 mil profit for Katharina and arguably a better team.
So who do you want managing the team, Koemans or Rogers ?????
So, Pedro can't get a game ar Barca, figures he may do better at Chelsea apparently? No competition for places there...

I agree Chris. The problem for City is they need home grown players to meet the new quota. That's why British players are attracting premium prices. There are so few good ones out there.

It looks like Man U are about to sign Schneiderlin too, all they need now is a striker, a central defender or 2 and a goal keeper.
Nice to see Claudio Ranieri back in the English game. A true gentlemen. He'll have his work cut-out at Leicester of course but I wish him well.

And perhaps a new capable manager..!
