Football Season 2014 - 2015

Posted by: Steve J on 18 May 2014

As requested here is the new season's thread.

Obviously the first picture has to be of the best team in the land winning 'last year's' Premier League title for the second time in 3 years.

At least the title stayed in Manchester Chris.

So long as the appointment allows Shaw to leave it will be a good thing

Koeman's appointment at St Marys confirmed today.  Perhaps a few Dutch players will follow him. Southampton should have plenty of money to spend when they cash in on Shaw and Lallana.

The planning can start soon

Wow...3 of their first 5 matches are with newly promoted teams?  I'd call that favorable scheduling!

ManU has a very good chance of opening with 5 straight wins.  After last year, this is exactly what they need to come together as a team, and rebuild some confidence.

Then it all comes crashing down on November 1.

Fingers crossed that Citeh will have an away trip to the Ukriane the preceding Wednesday - but I think it is more likely to be the Legue Cup that week

Getting ready for Rickie Lambert?

Posted on: 19 June 2014 by Colin Lorenson

What a stupid post from a team that contains Nani and Ashley Young

Posted on: 27 June 2014 by dave4jazz

BBC Sport, and other news sources, are reporting Adam Lallana is travelling to Liverpool for a medical. His sale will take Southampton's summer transfer earnings to £56m, with Shaw to ManU departing for £27m and Lambert sold for £4m.

Executive director Les Reed has "guaranteed" new manager Ronald Koeman will be able to reinvest "any revenues" in the team.

Let's at least hope the money is well invested.

Will the last player to leave St. Marys please remember to put out the lights.

And is this the same Les Reed who "guaranteed" that none of our top players would be leaving this summer.

At least I'll be able to afford a season ticket for the 2015-16 season - in the Championship

It's sad to see some of the best players leaving SFC but if they wanted out, which seems to be the case, then the club has at least received top dollar money for them. Maybe there will be others, e.g. Lovren, Schneiderlin. We can only hope the money received will be re-invested wisely. No reason why we can't be top 6 next season.

You have loadsa money to spend + a nice stadium...you will be  OK.

A S/T in the Chumpionship is the same price as in the prem,as you get 23 games instead of 19.

When we got promoted two years ago the cost of my S/T went from £512 to £700 and because there are less games the cost per game went from about £18 to £45. So I bought a Canon 7D body instead, last year it was a NAC102, this year a Supercap.

I remain to be convinced. After the very obvious falling out between Don Cortese and Ms. Liebherr, the writing was on the wall for a liquidation of assets. They've even got a "fall guy" to take the flak!

It's always wise to take with a large pitch of salt "assurances" given those running clubs these days.  They tend to be money-men or in it for the publicity, not the long-term welfare of the club. My lot know that only too well.

That said, Soton has some solid foundations and a first class youth set-up so cashing in on a few home-grown players shouldn't precipitate a collapse.

Look at it this way Mista Mole,at least in the prem you get to watch some of the best players in the UK,playing for the top teams. What have i got to look foreward to? a visit from the likes of Milwall & Middlesbro and their charming well educated supporters. I always used to enjoy my trips down to St Marys,an easy run down from London and a nice ground.

Koeman seems to have a pretty good CV and considered to be a good fit with SFC’s philosophy of promoting young players from the academy and adopting an attacking playing style. Lets hope he gets the (financial) support from the board to bring in a few good players and continue the progress made at the club in recent seasons.

Southampton team lineup season 2014/5

Posted on: 08 July 2014 by dave4jazz

Sky are reporting SFC have signed Tadic from FC Twente.

So that's 3 out = £60m, 1 in = £10M.

Onwards and upwards.

By the way how are Fulham doing in the transfer window?

It would be nice to see a change at the top with teams like Everton breaking through. And wouldn't it be great to see teams like Southampton, Stoke, Crystal Palace, Burnley, West Ham or Swansea finishing top ten.

I shall be watching the Championship as usual.

If you speak to Kevin he will tell you the chances of Spurs breaking into the top 4 are just less than Zero.

I to will be watching Chumpionship football next season, after 13 great years of watching all the top teams visit us,this coming season its the likes of Brentford and those very nice people from Milwall. Just got our tickets for a PSF next Sat at Crawley of all places.

According to south coast print media, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is about to make his "FOURTH raid" on Saints. Wouldn't it just have been easier for the two clubs to swap managers?
