iRadio not working on NDX - Help PLS
Posted by: Tariqv on 21 May 2014
Hello,
I have just bought an NDX and connected to the network via an Ethernet cable, and I have "connected" listed in the NDX screen; however I have no radios listed whatsoever when I click iRadio on the remote. Could you please help me out, I do not know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance.
Has iRadio been disabled on the list of inputs? Are you sure you are connected to the internet - check in the menu.
I connected the n-serve app and it works fine for my usb flash disk connected in the front.
Thanks.
Tariqv, do you have the full NDX manual or are you just using the Quick Set-Up Guide? You really do need to use the NDX Manual - http://www.naimaudio.com/sites..._english_issue3b.pdf
Next problem is you cannot use nServe with NDX
nStream is the only app for NDX & it gives vision & control of iRadio, UPnP & USB selection.
– read & understand the manual is most important – then see how you get on & if still in trouble, call back.
Also it would be easier for us to help if we understood better what your set up is, how are you trying to connect to internet - is the NDX wired to the www router or are you using NDX wirelessly. How is your stored music connected – ethernet, wireless & how (on what) is it stored. If ethernet how does the connection look like, switch, router etc….
I was suspucious of how brief the manual was, I now realize that I read the quick start manual, I will check the detailed manual this evening.
I installed N-Stream on my ipad, sorry for the confusion.
I have all my flac music in a usb flash drive (64 GB) and the ethernet connection is a wired connection via a modem router.
Will update you after reading the proper manual, thanks a lot!
I got it working! I dont know how but first I removed the Mac address of the NDX from my router, I dont know if this caused a change. Afterwards I clicked right after iRadio was selected and the stations just popped up...
Thanks to all
That would be one reason Tariqv, too many addresses confuses mail man.
Do you reckon a Unitiserve would offer better SQ than the front fascia USB drive? I auditioned the NDX before buying and I could swear that the Unitiserve as the front end had a more organic sound with perfect timing, but that could well be the sales person's infuence

Any experience would be highly appreciated.

Yes – To me the only serious input on the NDX is the Ethernet connection. Significantly secondary to that if Ethernet is not possible is wifi, Finally as a nice little party add-on is the USB port. I have always viewed the USB port to be a nice to have extra feature to play whatever you have on your iPod/MP3 player.
I do not have experience with UnitiServe other than a dealer demo. I understand it’s an excellent machine & I considered it as a partner to my NDX but did not see any value in its CD ripping facility once my CD library had been copied onto HDD. I opted for a Synology NAS with its many included software packages such as Media Server & to use my PC or laptop along with dBpoweramp as my ripping devises.
So far all I can say is I am 101% satisfied.
Thanks for the input. As I said, I listened to the NDX during the audition via a NAS drive (Synology I think) and via the Unitiserve and the Unitiserve was so cohesive, the music just sounded so real, do not know for sure if it was because the sales man clearly preferred it; but it did make a difference which I can not put my finger on exactly...
When using the NAS as the source, can you download flac files from your laptop and drop it wirelessly into the NAS ? If yes, that would be a major benefit as now I need to disconnect the flash drive every time I want to add or delete files from it.
Yes, you can do that. But the files can be quite big, so I always plug my laptop into the router to transfer the music to the UnitiServe. Transferring big files wirelessly can be a bit flaky.

Yes I can, but normally I don't. (& I only have WAV files)
I'm not happy with wireless, I rip & download to NAS using a temporary loose ethernet cable connected between laptop & router. (router-ethernet-switch-ethernet-NAS)
Using a cable increases connection speed from at its best 72Mbps with wireless (its variable & can be as low or lower than 54mbps) to a steady 100Mbps with ethernet. It is also (maybe in my mind) that a cable has improved error free possibilities.
Regarding the US sounding better than a NAS ??? I am not convinced as to why, but I have not heard both in A-B tests, I don't understand why data off a HDD that is reputedly only streaming packets of 0's & 1's, can sound that different. I am open minded & would be pleased to hear others opinions - not that I will be changing anything.
But I am suspicious of dealer led demo's & wonder if you were allowed to listen to the same (high res (???)) files on both the US & the NAS.
Back to the wireless transfer of files to the NAS; why would a wireless connection from the laptop to the NAS pose a problem if all being done is transferring the file, to be played from the NAS afterwards?
Re SQ differences between US & NAS. I've heard exactly the same description from others; remarkably similar that it makes be believe it was written that way. Also I have not found similar findings with press reviews. I am not a skeptical person (not) but personally would like to hear it for myself. Maybe some other forumites can chip in.
Regarding wireless transfer, yes you are probably right & I have not found a problem with what I have done over wireless. But I value my music & its SQ, and as it takes 10 seconds to connect an ethernet cable I keep in a draw of the cabinet the router is sitting on, I feel its a small price to pay.
