Desktop Client issue 'RoomID' on win7 64bits

Posted by: Yvan on 21 May 2014

Hi everyone,

I bought a new computer lately. And since then, eventhough I did uninstall and re-install it several times, I got an issue with my Desktop Client. The maintenance part (below, in grey) of the screen is working ok. But at the startup, the software prompt me with the famous 'Player is currently busy...', and the player part (above, in black) is not working.

Since the desktop client is working ok in the same time on other computers from the home, I don't understand. I also switched of my firewall for a while and tested the Desktop Client again, same result.

And when I click on the 'tools' tab, ore later on the 'System settings' menu of this tab, I always got a 'roomID must be between 1 and 255'. What am I missing here ?

Thanks for you help !

Yvan,

I was interested to see your post. I have exactly the same issue but I'm using a Mac. I use Parallels software to run Windows (also 64bit Windows 7) on the MAC for work and the DTC software shows the exact same symptoms as you describe. I thought the issue was because I was running Windows as a virtual machine. I am now wondering if there is another explanation. FYI - the DTC runs perfectly well on the Mac side of my laptop.

Hello Scott,

Well, no need to say I would have loved to read your e-mail even more if you had the same problem but with a idea of a solution to it . Anyway, it's always nice to discover one is not the only one struggling...

Anyone else has an idea for us maybe ?!??

This will not be of much help, but on my router the DHCP IP address range has to be within 2 and 254.

Found the trick !!!

The thing is... I didn't realise when I did install Avast anti-virus that this software also includes a Firewall. After mailing naimaudio support, I got an answer from Phil. He told me that I should try to run the Desktop client as administrator for I could miss some rights. I tried that at first, but it wasn't working. Anyway this was the trigger for me to try to tear down my windows firewall and the anti-virus (Thanks Phil ! ). Doing this, I found out that Avast had also the firewall on. So I tried to switch that off and it did correct my bug with the Desktop client !

Then I played for a while into the settings of the Avast Firewall to 'explain' it that it is ok to let 'DigiFi Desktop Client' get through the firewall (I was surprised not to find any 'Naim audio' mention into the list of softwares attempting to pass the firewall).

Hope this can help others !

Enjoy your music!

Yvan,

followed your suggestions but still encountered the problem. However I found the fix for my setup and am posting here in case anyone else faces the same problem. In my case (running windows on a Mac using Parallels) the problem was related to the network settings used by the Parallels software. The problem was solved by changing network settings from "shared" to "bridged".

All the best,

Scott,

Hi Scotty,

Thanks for your reply. It seems like everyone has been triggered by the ideas of one another. I got triggered by Phil's idea saying I might start the Desktop player as administrator to ensure full access rights and this made me think about firewalls and anti-virus softwares. And you got triggered by this to check your network settings into virtual machine.  Nice ;-)
