Naim Uniti Question

Posted by: Sloop John B on 17 February 2011

A friend has asked me to recommend a  cd player for him stating that he may well buy a "stack system".

I'm immediately thinking Uniti as I'm very pleased with my UniQute. From looking at the main Naim site it would seem a n-link is needed for direct ipod attachment but from the forum it would appear that it now works the same as the UniQute - is this the case?

am I safe to assume the Uniti does everything my Qute does plus plays CDs?

I found it hard to divine from refine so speaker recommendations would be appreciated, I'm very happy with my NSats but I'd be interested in what speakers are being used with Uniti.

Thanks

Yes Uniti with the latest firmware does exactly the same as the Qute - but sounds IMHO slightly better than the Qute - my Monitor Audio RS6s work very well but adding the NAP 200 has been a revelation.

SJB - It will be great when the search feature returns as there have been lots of useful threads about Uniti and speaker choice.
From my own experience, Leema Xeros worked wonderfully with the Uniti.
I then changed to a Qute as I never played CDs, added a NAP200 like Tog and moved to Proac Tablette Ref 8 Signatures (unnecessarily long name if you ask me).  These have better mid range and high end than the Xeros, but less of the bass.

I use proac. One tip for you is, only the latest hardware version with the latest firmware can use iPod USB feature. As there are a lot of old machines still out there, make sure you test this function before accepting the unit.

For info - the latest Unitis with iPod digital in won't have the n-Link connection socket on the back.
It's a quick way to check if you're getting the latest model.

I agree, Uniti sounds better than Qute.  Stronger power amp and possibly better preamp stage.
