Music Storage

Posted by: Woods Scot on 19 February 2011

I have a technical question about music storage. I am considering my options for music storage. A NAS drive vs and additional external HD connected to my mac mini.

The latter is less expensive, but I am not sure if it will be read by unitiserve. Or if it can/will be read/recognized, and what sort of configuration am I looking at.

Is anyone else trying this configuration, and how is it/or isn't it working for you.

Regards,

Scot

Hi Scott,

I presume you are thinking of the SSD version of the Unitiserve, i.e. without it's own hard drive, in which case a NAS is essential for ripping purposes, a key feature of the Serve.

The NAS also has the advantage of being "always on".

I use the SSD variant and am very pleased withe the functionality and sound quality. The ripping process is very simple and quick.

Yes, general consensus is that a NAS drive for your music library is a good way to go.
As Scot says, it's 'always on', so you don't have to have your computer running to listen to music.
