Have not tried it but Fidelia premium music player has come on market for mac users.
Could be worth a punt at 20 bucks.

Hmmm what would be really nice would be a new Mac based UPnP server as good as Asset.

I've been happy with Channel D's PureMusic as an app that "sits on top of" iTunes as opposed to replacing it. I run it on a dedicated, headless MacMini that accesses my music files (aiff, ALAC) from a firewire drive. This app then handles the switching of all of the sample rate settings within Mac OS as well. All of that then makes it way into music via a USB M2Tech hiFace, then SPDIF into my Rega DAC -- then -- finally, it hits my NAC202.
All that being said, my LP12 still gets most of the action

Agreed. Not sure what the heck the problem is but I would have thought someone would have gotten this going pronto. I can see it as being a bit of a sticking point in the whole UPnP streaming paradigm. LOT'STog
of Mac heads out there that are into music and the Mac Mini, etc has become the defacto recommendation for many. Maybe folks are just waiting to see where the whole Airplay thing ends up.

I have been trying out Fidelia, so far it is far more trouble free than Amarra, Pure Music and Audivana. Best of all the support from them is excellent and lightning fast. Sounds very good, short on features but very usable.

Excuse ignorant question, but what does the Fidelia product do/allow you to do please?

Out of curiosity: how do you wake up a headless MacMini? All that being said, my LP12 still gets most of the action
I mean that usually a Mac goes into an energy saving “sleep” mode after some idle time, and you wake it up by touching any key on the keyboard. If there is no keyboard what do you do to wake it up?

I wake mine by pressing 'menu' on the little white Apple remote.

If you're using the remote app on the iPad, iPhone or touch along with iTunes, Open up System Preferences, click on Energy Saver, then ensure Wake for network access is ticked and you're good to go!
