At home... or in the car......?

So.... it struck me this morning that as much as I dearly love listening to music through my Naim system, there are times when something massively inferior works better.

The last 2 mornings my daily commute (which takes in a few back-roads, and involves a reasonably quick car) have had me listening to some Zep & some Rush.

Nothing unusual, but yesterday my random selection served up "The Spirit of Radio".

This was coming off a 320kbs mp3, stored and streamed from a BlackBerry, via bluetooth onto a moderate Skoda standard fit ICE.

I relished every moment of this track, sun streaming down, leafy twisty road, shades on & volume up to 11. It was f'ing glorious.

And yet.... when I got home from work last night, dug out the vinyl, and had another listen in comfortable surroundings, through a system I adore... did it cut the mustard?

NOPE

Sounded fantastic, but this was only part of the equation.... The Spirit of Radio was written to drive to... the lyrics confirm it...

So here's the thread.....  to those of you who play music whilst they drive, what are those great driving songs that feel so much better with a steering wheel between your hands, those greats that your Naim system reproduces deliciously, but that listening to as you drive just makes it so much better?

I'll add two more.....

Iron Maiden's Running Free (any version, including the numerous live recordings of this that I have)

Dire Straits' Private Investigations - especially late at night, in the rain, on a quiet stretch of motorway.

I look forward to your posts, should make for some great driver's playlists.

A cliche maybe, but the Doors' "Riders on the Storm", if it is at night, after it has stopped raining, and is a warm enough evening to have the driver's window down a tad to hear the tyres cutting through the standing water...

At the end of the day it's the music that counts.

Some tracks can shall we say can encourage "over enthusiastic" driving so be careful.

If I drive my car fast it is impossible to hear the stereo

I have a TVR - once the engine's running then as far as I can tell the stereo appears to have no purpose other than to fill what would otherwise be an ugly hole in the dash...

...however I *MAY* be able to alleviate that issue by the addition of a nice meaty in-car amplifier - hmmm - wonder where I could find one of those?

Room for the 15 speakers?

I thought TVRs provided their own music?

There might not be room for 15 speakers but you don't have to have all the channels in use...

Anyway - I don't know what amp you could be referring to there...

I think it's there to give you something to listen too whilst waiting for the recovery truck...

I've had TVR's for 25 years, never needed a recovery truck.

Also "Death Trap" by Hawkwind: "oil pressure going down, worn out piston rings, radiator overheat, hydraulic leak out, brake blocks blowing out, tyres on fire now! Death Trap!"
Or maybe "Damnation Alley"  in your 4 wheeled (sic)  anti-radiation tomb...
