Onkyo AV receiver into Nait's AV input in Unity Gain, info needed.

Hi,
does anyone know if you can ouput front L and R from an Onkyo TX-NR3007 and feed it into a Nait's AV input in Unity Gain? The Onkyo has all the pre outs, but do they work simultaneously with the internal power amps, since all the other channels should be amplified by the Onkyo?
I'm investigating for a friend of mine who has that system and wants to use the Nait for front and stereo duties.
Do I remember right that the correspondent IC, on the DIN side, has non conventional PIN connections?
Thanks,
Massimo

Morning Max
What you describe is pretty much what I do. An Onkyo 875 powers my centre and surrounds, the 250.2 the fronts through a 282. I don't think a special interconnect is required just set the amp to unity gain on the AV input and take main line outs from the Onkyo.
All the line outs on the Onkyo work they are just not connected so don't connect speakers to the main Onkyo amps.

Jay, Dungassin,
thanks a lot for the exhaustive replies. I seemed to remember that an >inverted< interconnect is used for some AV related purpose, and that I myself had it when I owned AV2 and all the rest. I'll have a Flashback Sales cord made for this friend (who appears to be a bit lazy about learning things by himself..), and tell him not to connect any speaker to the L and R of the Onkyo.
Thanks again,
Max

Max, the special interconnect for connecting the AV2 to a Naim preamp is a two way i/c. This allows you to route sources connected to the pre-amp through to the processor (and then back again). For example, you may wish to try Dolby PLII or DTS Neo on some SQ matrixed LPs, or experiment with PLII and Neo on other 2 channel sources. I had a few evenings worth of fun trying this out and found that it was heavily dependent on the music. I particularly enjoyed listening to Thom Yorke's The Eraser in 4 channel PLII mode and imagine it would lend itself well to something like a system running an AV1.

Richard,
I sold my AV system (DVD5/AV2/175) due largely to the DVD5, which had a glorious video quality but was less involving as stereo player. Yet, I sometimes still regret surround, and find myself following s/h AV2's..
This friend will just need a cable going from the Onkyo's RCA front L&R outs to the DIN AV input of his Nait5, in Unity Gain mode; I suppose it can be made easily.
Thanks for your tips and impressions!
Max

I kept my DVD5 and use it as a transport for my nDAC. Really rather good, IMO.

Well, not so strange. For that, I can tell you that I did some careful listening and between standalone DVD5 with Hiline into analogue input of the AV2, and DVD5 as transport into the AV2's dig input via DC1 digital cable, I (and a friend, and wife) preferred the latter for its more straight, true-to-life presentation.

Just shows we're all different. I never did that comparison using a DCI (although I have one now), but had a preference for the DVD5's own DAC and HiLine over the DVD5 using a QED coax digital into the AV2. I will admit the difference was small.

In my case, it wasn't.
