Bloody apostrophes again.

Is it just me? I can spot the things from miles away when they're being abused:

The store is actually called Tesco, so it doesn't need an apostrophe s at all.  But I suppose that if you were saying it was 'the store that belonged to Tesco', then apostrophe s is grammatically correct; no apostrophe would be incorrect unless it was plural Tesco stores.

Gallions Reach looks as if it could do with an apostrophe though.  Gallion's or Gallions' depending on how many possessed the Reach.

Unless it were subject (plural) and verb as in "gallions reach far out into the ocean...."

We have a great sign outside our house at the moment, I should have taken a picture. Where a segment of the Leeds-Liverpool between locks is currently drained for repairs a notice from British Waterways states 'Canal closed due to de-watering'.

A local shop, now closed down, had the proud boast..."Karen's bit's and bob's. Magic price's".

I think the signwriter got the taste for apostrophising early on, then simply could not stop...

It's the same phenomenon as proof-reading.  I have written/typed the odd Panto script, and it never ceased to amaze me that I could check it carefully for typos, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors etc and think it OK, but the first person to read it over my shoulder would immediately point out the errors I missed.

It's why I made my youngest give me and her fiance (now husband) her PhD thesis to read/check.

Oh my goodness, "VAG" has a totally different connotation in the USA.
To "chat VAG" in the USA means the conversation would be strictly among women...

As with Dungassin, I find I can spot mistakes in the works of others (but then how do I know how many mistakes I miss?) but I do make many mistakes myself ... more so as I've aged.

But such a mistake as this is incomprehensible ... you would think!

On Monday, my wife and I were choosing a selection of birthday cards to buy in a dedicated retail shop when my wife pointed out to me a large card displayed (with several others) on the wall ... a card to celebrate retirement ... on which the the large front lettering read (I kid you not): CONGRATULATIONS ON YOU'RE RETIREMENT

There is no hope ...

There is a current thread on the forums about the nSATs (nSat treble to intensive?) which uses TO when it should be TOO.  Bit like fingernails on blackboards - makes me cringe to see it.  Perhaps I'm just getting old ...

I suspect that English is not the first language of the poster of that thread, so I'm prepared to forgive it.
