Upgrade SQ by upgrading NAS? Any thoughts?

My old Synology is a bit slow (takes like 20 mins to reboot! under the latest software!)

This is holding me back from trying to let it to transcode audio file -> wave on the fly though the option exist and is easily enabled.

As people thought Wav has better quality than FLAC so I am wondering if upgrading it to a faster Synology and enable transcoding will be a good idea, especially now Synology has announced my model will no longer be supported with new software....

Just wanna ask if anyone has done this experiment:

Wav vs Transcoded Wave from Flac vs Flac upnp to Uniti

and

Wav vs Transcoded Wave from MP3 vs MP3 to Uniti

Wonder if transcode will get the same quality as direct wave....

(Edit:

I just tried to transcode wave to Uniti. My initial thought is that the transcoded wave extract that little bit extra details and sound more open! However, some punch in bass was loss in the process.

The Flac to Uniti route lose a bit of detail and openess in comparision.

When I played CD of the same track, the sound is the best and is closer to the wave transcoded but with tighter, punchier and more controlled bass. From this I realize that the Flac route probably lose a bit of control over the bass giving it that extra bass boom.

One problem with the Wave transcode route was that, after I enabled transcoding, it seems to be less responsive when browsing the files on the NAS, and the gap between track was noticeably longer. Wonder if these problems along with the bass issue can be fixed with a faster NAS!)

Please let me know of your experience if any!
