Albums missing in Asset Mac OS

Posted by: Damon on 30 May 2014

Hi All,

I've looked for a similar topic, but haven't found one, so I'm going to start a new thread. I've installed the trial version of Asset for Mac and I like it; it seems reliable and the sorting display performance on the i devices seems good. I also have Playback and eLyric. But as Playback is orphaned, I thought I'd look to something current.

The problem is that some albums are missing in nStream on my iPhone 4S and iPad 2. I've posted this problem on the Asset forum, but I'm not really making progress there. My latest post was something like this:

The missing album is one of three individual albums by Delerium. The 'missing' album is their first of three, from 1998, and it is called 'Karma'.
Each album shows up as an individual folder, in the 'Delerium' folder in user>music>iTunes>iTunes Music>Miusic> Delerium.
Each album shows up in iTunes when using the album view or Artist view, all of the songs show up in iTunes when the column search is on Songs.
All three albums show up on my iPhone when I use Playback as the UPnP server.
All three albums show up on my iPhone when I use eLyric as the UPnP server.
All three albums show up on the front display of the Naim UnitiQute when I use the Naim remote to select an album.
The numbering of the songs in the album folder in the artist folder appears to be identical to every other song and album.
I have compared the 'info' fields in iTunes of each song in the 'missing' album to that of the other albums that do show up. There is no difference as far as I can tell. It is not part of a compilation, it is not disc 1 of some other number.

I accept that there must be something about this album that gives Asset a problem, but it is clear that Asset has this problem whereas other UPnP servers do not. The Album is on my computer and it is in iTunes. Asset cannot find the album or any of the songs on it.

I know that Asset is widely used by form members here, and is well-regarded. I'm hoping that someone else has been through similar grief and can point me in the direction of a cure. It is odd that iTunes shows I have 194 albums, and Asset only shows that I have 177. I restarted, rescanned, checked every sorting and tag field that I can find, re-imported the disc and there is no change.

Bummer; its one of my absolute favourite albums.

I had the same issue with missing albums/tracks with asset for osx just before it's commercial release. I reported on their support forum and got very quick reply and care. Actually that was known bug and they cure it in next release. Since that time in april, had no any bugs like that, now using premium version. Another issue can be with tagging. Your missing album maybe not tagged properly. Check it with some tagging software, but not iTunes, since iTunes uses it's own way for tagging. Playback also using data from iTunes library, but not directly from tags, embedded into files, like asset does

Thanks Roman,

I've been exchanging posts with Spoon, and I appreciate his help, but it hasn't quite been hitting the mark for me.

I was not aware of other software that would check the tagging of song files in iTunes. I've checked the tags and metadata several times, and re-imported the problem album. No luck.

Your point about Asset using embedded data is interesting. What might be odd then, is that songs my band has recorded recently come in to iTunes the same way, and these tracks all show up correctly in all three UPnP servers on my i devices.

Can you suggest some tagging / tag checking software that would work? Mac OSX Mavericks.

I'm using simple but quite effective soft from App Store named "Tag" here is link

Try Jaikoz as a tagging tool. It works with Mavericks and Windows 7.

Tag is WAY simpler to use.  If Tag works, I recommend it over Jaikoz for its pure simplicity.

Thanks Mike and Bart,

The metadata world is something that I never expected would have so many possibilities to create problems. But I'm seeing that iTunes and the various UPnP servers deal with this info in different ways.

I still can't get Asset to find 'Karma' by Delerium, though Playback and eLyric can do it easily. Asset also shows fewer albums than iTunes clearly contains. More strangeness.

As well, I've been importing songs that my band has been recording; they show up alphabetically in each of the UPnP servers I've used (in nStream) even though they show up in the correct order in iTunes. This is frustrating as I'm trying to use these recordings to practice for our next show.

I'll give Tag a try.

Thanks for following up.
