Beatles mono vinyl aaa box set
Posted by: Premmyboy on 16 June 2014
All the Beatles albums are to be released in mono all analogue vinyl as individual albums and as a box set this September 2014.
See analogue planet website for more details. Yippee!!!
Prem.
I took a closer look at my set and SPLHCB has a few light surface marks which are fortunately not audible and plays fantastically.
In fact I had become rather bored of SPLHCB over the years and rarely play it preferring R and RS but this MONO pressing is absolutely 'fabulous' and has breathed a whole new life into it.
Stunning.
Richard
She's given in. Ordered should be with me Sunday
Here are a couple of pictures of the 'wedge like' pressing defect I mentioned above.
My replacement box set arrived today from Amazon and I was surprised to find the white box set itself packed in a cardboard box surrounded by paper rather than the well constructed original packaging my first set came in. Luckily the LP I wanted to change looks like a decent, well centred, flat pressing with no surface flaws. I'll check the SQ when my 500 comes back tomorrow.

Don't fret Graham. I just lent it to a very good friend so he can dem a pair of speakers he is selling after selling his own 500. I get it back tomorrow.

That's good you had me worried hope the replacment box is ok interestingly the only fault I could find with my set was a mark on side 3 of the WA but it was not audible when played. Is your replacement number lower or higher than the original?
ATB Graham.
Hi Graham. All is well. The replacement is fine and I've sorted the best out into one set.
The numbering has me perplexed. The only 'number' in the set is that on the White Album. Yes, the new one is slightly lower but not by much.

Luckily she does. And as she pointed out at least I'll be playing something she knows for a change.
Enjoy Steve.
Collected my copy from record shop this morning, I received it in an unopened still sealed shipping carton with foam cheek packaging, so I am confident that the box has not been messed with in the shop.
following Steve J's worrying report above, I immediately pulled the white album out and visually checked both discs and placed them on the rotating platter to look for warps. I found neither disc to be perfectly flat and disc 2 is more noticeably warped but doesn't appear to have the same pressing defect as Steves. Both discs play fine although my Ekos/Dynavector D3 does appear to bob and weave more noticeably at the outer of both sides of disc 2 but I cant discern any affect on sound quality that could with certainty be attributed to the warp ( disc 2 does seem to sound slightly veiled and a little less transparent compared to disc 1 but I don't know whether that is down to the pressing, master tape condition, or whether the album normally sounds like that) I will return to the shop for a replacement anyway just in case.
I then went through each LP in turn giving a visual and platter check for warps. None of the records I found to be perfectly flat (but most LP's I think rarely are and in my experience the issue is more common with modern pressed 180g vinyl). The least flat were Beatles For Sale & Rubber Soul but still subjectively within acceptable limits I haven't listened to them yet.
I am wondering if the above is consistent with the findings of others who have bought the box set?
I am also a bit puzzled by the numbering, please correct me if I am wrong but I thought I read somewhere that all the LP's in the box set would be individually numbered as opposed to no numbering on the LP's sold individually, the only LP numbered in my box is The White Album (9028277)
In case my local record shop don't have replacement stock I decided to check amazon, I searched The Beatles Mono Box and the following message is displayed
Item Under Review
This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described.
We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find this product available from other sellers on this page.
Hmmm I wonder if they may be some rogue/faulty copies getting returned?
Hi Richard,
There doesn't appear to be any numbering on the box or record sleeves as you say. Most people I know with the box set also have the White Album numbering starting 902... so I'm not sure of the relevance of that either.
I think the set is under review with Amazon could be because they have been receiving returns for faulty single albums and, being limited, they are running out of stock. It could explain why my replacement set didn't come in the transit packaging the first set came in. They probably cobbled together a single set from those returned.
I have checked all the LPs now and have no warping issues. If you have any albums you think should be replaced then you could buy the individual albums and send back the faulty one.
Steve
Numbering is just on the WA and there is a thread elsewhere on the internet where people are reporting their numbers......not that it means anything except that the sleeve was printed as part of this first batch of x thousand.
Richard
Interestingly the image used on the Amazon site for the individual mono White Album is numbered also. If someone has bought a copy perhaps they can confirm this. If so it makes a mockery of the limited edition.
The WA is also numbered on the individual release as well as within the box set apparently.
There is a debate elsewhere whether the lower the number relates to a first press but the consensus view appears to be that the albums sleeves were printed and numbered totally separately and are not linked to the pressing sequence.
My number is 9027863 by the way.

That makes complete sense. I by no means got in my pre-order very early, but have a somewhat lower number than yours. Luck of the draw when the box was assembled and/or the order was filled. No relation to order of pressing I would guess.
Also it appears elsewhere that a couple of numbers have been duplicated but this could be some people having a joke on the internet.
Mine turned up today with No. 9024934 on the White Album. It will be interesting to see if the barcodes are printed on the sleeves or just stickers.

Well done S your WA no is lower than mine. As Steve said the nos don't seem to have any revalance particularly to when you ordered the box and appear to be quite random

Amazon probably had pallet loads sent in, so it might make sense that the higher numbers got sent out first.

The barcodes are likely to be on the shrink wrap only with the individual albums.

Steve. Are you making any sence of this numbering malarkey? and does it matter!
No sense at all. The numbers seem very high being much greater than my original UK and German albums. Who knows what it means.
