Server found after 10 minutes or so

Hello fellow Naim fanatics .

I've got a rather strange problem with my naim gear after i'd got a new wifi modem.

My Unitiqute says "server not availabe", but the strange thing is that when i wait for about 10 minutes it suddenly appears.

When i switch to UPnP compatibility modus it works right away, only this mode has less functionality so i don't want to use that one.

Has anyone of you ever got the same problem ?

It seems weird to me that my Synology appears after a 10 minute wait...

Sorry for my poor English, still hope that it's clear what the problem is, and would really appreciate any input.

Greetings from the Netherlands.

Sounds like multicast discovery issues again.

Ensure you are using wired connections into a seperate switch for your Naim and NAS and preferably use a multicast optimised wireless access point like Apple Airport Express plugged into the above switch for your ipad or streamer if you have to go wireless.

Some home LAN equipment has very poor network performance.

Thanks for the reply Simon.

The irritating part is that everything worked fine with my old modem, now i wish i never replaced it with this new one.

Still don't understand how its possible that it appears after 10 minutes, it's not like my networks thinks for itself. Pretty scary are we in the Matrix already..

Well.. i took me some time, but i found a trick to get everthing working again.

Maybe if someone's got the same problem this might help.

I use a Synology NAS 213J, firmware: DSM 5.0-4493 Update 2.

The trick for me was to set the SSDP-Advertismentinterval (found under mediaserver, just type it in the searchbox)

as low as possible (5 is minimal).

Now the Nstream app finds my NAS in yes.. 5 seconds.

Good shout - the multicast discovery packets happening more frequently perhaps overcomes the fact that some are occasionally lost and therefore timeout. It will be creating more 'spam' on your network but at least it works

Simon, could you elaborate on the "spam" issue ?

I'm rather ocd with keeping everything as clean and fast as possible.

Sorry, probably bad term to use.. I meant network traffic being generated when it shouldn't be necessary.

Ah oke Simon, thanks for the reply.

I guess as long as it doesn't seem to have an noticeable effect on

the streaming performance i will keep it this way for now.

Hi chico and Simon

Not sure the problem is the same but we actually investigate a similar problem in the "n-stream trouble topic"

Server is not found if UPNP compatibility is OFF on nstream with a Synology Nas running synology media server (serveur multimedia in french)

This seems to occurs when I use the standard remote...

But the server never disappear directly in the streamer interface (uniti) especially when using the standard remote or the front panel of the uniti.

Setting the UPNP compatibility mode ON solve the problem...

you  can take a look here :

PS

no wifi switch here

uniti is hard connected

only nstream (on an Iphone) use the wifi network

JLD,

I'd say give it a try, just set the SSDP-Advertismentinterval at 5 and see what happens.

It works for me since a few days, no more troubles, and no weird side effects.. So i guess it's all good.

JLD, ok so from your description, it may be the multicast packets are not being effectively handled over your wifi connecting your Nstream.  You could try using a different wifi access point such as an Apple Airport Express, which reliably handle multicast discovery packets.

Thank you Simon and Chico

I will look at the wifi connection... (multicast packets)

i can also try the SSDP-Advertismentinterval at 5...
