UnitiServe-SSD stuck in "System DB Rebuild" state
Posted by: Talkena on 15 March 2011
Here might be a beginner's mistake with the UnitiServe-SSD.
By trying to "reset" the unit, I asked the UnitiServe-SSD to re-generate its database. However, I probably did not shut down the unit properly. Now, when turning the unit it back on, it does NOT finish its boot cycle and gets stuck with the Naim Logo constantly flashing and the web client saying "System DB Rebuild - Do Not Power Off". The system gets hung in that state even if I am waiting for hours.
Has anyone experienced this? How do you unstuck a UnitiServe-SSD stuck into that limbo state?

Hi,
This I can sort remotely for you when I'm back in the office on Thursday if you have a PC that I can use to remotely log into? Can you drop me an email to phil.harris@naimnet.com and we can arrange?
Can I please ask anyone reading this that if you need support on a product then - as per the sticky at the top of the forum - please contact either me or Steve Hopkins directly. Then we can get issues sorted effectively whereas forum posts are more difficult to spot.
Cheers
Phil

We can generally do any remote diagnosis from Macs too but they're more difficult to work with in that case so my first request is always for a PC...

Hi Tog,
It does but so do many PVRs, Mobile Phones, petrol pumps and cash machines ... the units are not just a PC that can be recovered from a CD.

Glad you're all sorted - thanks for being up at obscene o'clock so that we could fit it in between timezones.

What is especially heartening about Naim is that irrespective of the age of a piece of kit, they will look after you and repair it. I have been informed by a Linn dealer that this is definitely not the case with their products. Once it has reached 10 years, you are on your own. Their policy is that the customer should just throw it away. If this is true, the moral is obvious: buy Naim.Richard

This is where I must confess - I have just bought my first LP for 25 years. It is an original from 1966 and unavailable on CD. It will be ripped by my dealer, then I am going to get it framed

Is it sad to admit that I love the heavy aluminium casework ...and the fact the development guys like to talk about their products?

I didn't say that the UnitiServe cannot be upgraded - just that it cannot be reinstalled from scratch from a bootable CD. The UnitiServe is software upgradable in *EXACTLY* the same way as an HDX or NS0x...
