As a new member to the forums,do Naim intend to bring out an AV amp along the lines of the Arcam Avr 500.....only more reliable.

Here's a good one–can you name one good-sounding AV receiver that is reliable?

Go to main Naim website and look up Naim AV2 under "old/discontinued products". You can also download the manual from that site.
It's Naim's AV processor/preamp, designed to be used with power amps, with the cheapest option being a 150 + 175, although I have used a Naim D-650 (their six channel amp designed for multiroom purposes) very successfully. The best sounding AV processor I have ever heard, and as a stereo preamp is roughly equivalent to Naim's entry level stereo preamp. Doesn't decode the new HD audio codecs, but those of us who already own one usually seem to go down the route of getting a blu-ray player with good onboard decoding of its own for that purpose (I use an Oppo 83SE).

Yup I am using an 83Se with mine. For me there is just no reason to upgrade to a HD decoding processor.
I have seen AV2's sell as low as £450 recently - such a bargain - esp as the DAC is pretty good when used with a sonos and such.

A lot of this stuff goes over my head...however as the years roll bye and I read a few more posts. I might learn something.

+3 for the AV2.
I really doubt that Naim will hurry to get burned in the AV area again.
I suspect that they lost money on the AV2, DVD5 and nVi; although the development will have borne some fruit in the Uniti series.

It's highly unlikely Naim will launch any more AV products they have based there business in a roundabout way on the I-Pod/music which has been a huge success that's the way Hi-Fi companies are going. I recently heard that Linn will not be dipping there toe back in the Av market anytime soon if at all.

What, if anything, was wrong with the AV 2 ?

No HDMI and the ability to decode HD audio. Not a problem though if you have a player that does this and you use the analogues to connect up. Many prefer this route anyway.
