HDX Music Database

Posted by: PierreB on 15 March 2011

I am using the Naim desk top client software on a laptop.
Can anybody tell me how to modify the People attributes in the database?
I can rename the Album, Rename the Artist, Change the Genre but so far have been unable to enter a Composer's name, a Conductor's name or Performer's name under the People heading.  Am I missing something?

Hi Pierre,

AFAIK, it's not possible (yet) to change Conductor / Performer names ...

Thank you.  Do you have any idea as to when this functionality will be available?

Peter, How do you change the genre? I seem to be unable to do this on mine. I can upload cover art, rename the artist and album/track but that's about it. Regards, John.

Hi John,
You can change genres in two ways: -
1.  Using the remote go to Sytem SetUp, then Manage Music, then Assign Genres. Ther is also an Edit Genres option too for craeting new Genres and deleting Genres.
2.  My preferred method is to use the Naim Desktop Client on my PC or Laptop.  Just go to Genres and then you can drag and drop albums from one Genre to another.  The Album must be in the right hand pane though.  You can also create new Genres and also delete Genres.

Thanks Peter. I still struggle for some reason with the DTC but can edit from the web browser as you describe. John.

Ok, I'm struggling here.....  I see many are successful in changing the artist details, but I can't seem to do it for some reason.  What I'm trying to do is select a various artist album within the DTC and bring it up so the screen shows all the tracks, then when I try to click on each track to amend the artist details, it will only let me rename the track, but not move accross to change any other detail.

I would be very appreciative if someone could show me the error of my ways here!

Hi Jason,

You can only change the artist for an album not a track.  In the DTC the albums need to be in the right hand pane.  If you then right click on the album you should see an item that says change artist name.  This only works for music stored physically on the HDX box itself.  If you have music (as I have) also on a separate NAS box you cannot change anything!  This, I suspect, is because XML files which drive the database are only stored for music on the HDX.  I am going to experiment with creating my own XML files for albums on my NAS box and then see if the DTC will let me edit them.

Hope this helps,

Peter

Thanks Peter.  Yes, I think I managed to change a whole album before, but I was hoping to be able to amend individual artist detail on compilation albums, rather than the artist detail just showing "Various Artists" on the "Now Playing" display for every track.  A little annoying really, hope this is something Naim can address in future software updates, as everytime something plays that I want to check an artist for on a compilation album, I have to start delving deep into the track detail to find the artists details...... usually under "Performer"!

Thanks though, at least I know it's not just me......quite often it is!!!

Jason.
