London Vinyl Stores Recommendations

Posted by: Ralf2013 on 01 July 2014

Hello, I managed to get a ticket for Monthy Python in London. I will have one more day for my visit. Could be a good idea to visit a vinyl record shop. As my last visit to London was 20 years ago, what shop(s) would you recommend? I'm looking for R&B, Funk and Rock from the 60s, 70s and maybe 80s.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Hey Ralf

Greetings from beautiful Saarf Londun.

Try these:

The golden triangle of shops in and around Berwick Street in Soho:

Sister Ray

Reckless

Sounds of the Universe

On Portobello Rd, Honest Jon's

On Essex Rd and Crouch End, two branches of Flashback

Also on Essex Rd, Haggle Vinyl

Rough Trade East on Brick Lane is new vinyl only but is the best record shop in the country

In Saarf Landan, the Book & Record Bar

Some excellent suggestions by Kevin. Yes if pushed for time concentrate on Berwick St in Soho. Fopp on nearby Cambridge Circus (off Charing Cross Rd) and Ray's jazz section in Foyles new book shop on Charing Cross Rd are also worth checking out.

If you pop over to Honest Jon's on Portobello Rd it'd also be worthwhile having a look at Rough Trade West on nearby Talbot Rd (I prefer it to Brick Lane branch) and the once ubiquitous Music & Video Exchange on Notting Hill Gate (also a smaller branch in Berwick St).

Apparently Rat Records in Camberwell in south London is good for soul & Rnb.
