Hoopla Recent "Upgrade"

Posted by: Don Atkinson on 10 July 2014

Well, a few days ago, Richard said that Hoopla had experienced a few problems with their recent changes, so I presume the site has been upgraded.

I could have sworn that I was previously recorded as having joined this honourable forum on the 17th March 2001. I now find I joined on 3/17/2001 -  when was that ???? (there are only 12 months in a year) and the only way I can get "honourable" to appear without a red line beneath it is to spell it as "honorable".

I thought Naim (*) was now a French company, or was it some North American outfit that pumped in the new equity ?

(*) even "Naim" gets underlined in red when I type a post !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but at least "Bentley" doesn't get the red flag

In that case, the illogical American format of month before day will be vindicated .

Interestingly, the US customs form you have to fill out prior to entering the USA specifies the date in dd-mm-yy format. The idiotic mm-dd-yy format is so mind-bogglingly illogical and useless for so many purposes, that you see alternate arrangements all the time in the US. Just like people in the USA who do calculations that really matter (engineers and scientists) typically use the metric system just like the rest of the world does (except for Liberia and Myanmar).

Maybe the USA should be coloured the same a Kenya.

Fortunately the Radio Four Main News carried no details except in the Sports Report late on, by which time I was not listening anymore!

There were complaints that World Service - by contrast - stopped reporting on the Ukraine at all, headlining with extensive reports about Foreigners kicking a ball about some sports pitches somewhere in South America. During the period I avoided leaving the WS on at night so as to keep unimportant news out of my house.

I did find out that England's team was not there for long from the forum. I asked the question about who funds the Team, and rested easy when I was assured that it was not the UK tax-payer! You never know: The British council do fund some fairly eccentric things in an effort to promote the UK.

Boeing might have changed, but last time I looked at their 737 weight and balance charts, the moments were expressed in Kg inches............

Huh ! You are right !

I am absolutely certain that when I looked last night, my joining date was written as 3.17.2001.

Even my last visit looks right now. and i'm sure I wasn't drinking last night

Even "Honourable" and "Naim" have lost their red underlines today.

Either i'm going mad, or Hoop La is on top form.............No ! i'm not inviting a vote on this.....

Huh ! (again)

Firefox allows the Hoopla spellcheck facility to kick in. And displays dates in the American fashion.

Explorer doesn't facilitate the spellchecker but it does display dates in the UK way.

Probably accounts for the above "sudden" change in presentation - I use Firefox/Explore more or less at random !!

And it gets even more confusing for us Americans when we have to convert metric time in conjunction with the dominant world date format .

In addition to confused, I must be dumb, because I have no idea what the clock on the right is telling me...
