Unitiqute 2

Posted by: Jamieroqui on 15 July 2014

Has anyone had this problem? I am having a peculiar issue with my recently purchased Qute2 whereby the volume has a mind of its own, although intermittently. As you can imagine this is incredibly frustrating as I am otherwise delighted with kit. My speakers are also scared witless! I brought it from a distant dealer so i'm hoping it doesn't need to be returned......

Any chance it could be interference/signals from the remote control for another device or IR leakage from a light or other source?  That would be my first guess...

Try muting it between listening sessions so you can check the volume before pressing play. That will protect the speakers some.

You don't really describe the problem in detail, please do so.

Does the volume change whilst listening is in progress?

Is the remote control in the room?

What do you use to control the Qute?

Carpet near Qute? Is it manmade fibre?

Etc, etc,...

It might be worthwhile checking for static and reducing it's possible effects on the Qute. Maybe disable mute function from touching the logo. See if that changes anything.

may need service - I recall seeing a thread here about this, when I had just got my UQ. 'Search' reveals it!

No sure the concept of 'service' applies here, it may need to be returned for a fix though  .

But before then it's worth trying a few setting changes and maybe fashioning a tin-foil hat to eliminate telekenisis.

in that thread - 'return to dealer' (or contact tech support) is what Naim recommended for a new unit

Sorry about the lack of detail, I will add to it now.

I use the remote, my ipad or my iphone to control it, whichever is closest to hand. I have experienced the issue with all 3. It goes up and down whilst playing and also when not (on standby). The issue has happened sporadically since I purchased it new, about 3 weeks back, it shouldn't need a "service".

it has a man made fibre rug right in front of it and it is connected to my wireless network. Remote is room.

Hafler, your questions have been thought provoking and have given me things to try this evening!

Lastly (and this may be a complete red herring) I have a samsung TV in the next room that has a history of turning its volume down to zero from time to time! Spooky but prob a coincidence.

granted 'service' may  not be the right word - should have said 'check, test & repair if required ' perhaps

Jamieroqui,

as the Qute is wireless I would disconnect the speakers and take just the Qute into another room for a few hours with just the iPad for controller. Reconnect and use it as if there were speakers attached. Obviously you wont be hearing any music but hopefully isolating it might help to reduce the culprit list. Note the volume and see if it misbehaves in a similar manner.

Quick update, a week ago I switched the signal ground from "chassis" to "floating". I have left the unit switched on ever since and have experienced no further issues at all. I have no idea why this might be?!

I really am thoroughly enjoying this unit now. It really has great synergy with my Rega's. i have come from Cyrus DACX and mono's to just the Qute2 on its own and I'm enjoying my music again. I think it is potentially the best bit of hifi kit I have every bought pound for pound.

Amen to that!
