ImageShack: a further reduction in service

Posted by: MDS on 20 July 2014

A little while back I noticed that ImageShack had stopped me uploaded images unless I subscribed and paid for its premium service. At the time the website said you could still access images already uploaded.  However this evening I find that the 'direct link' option, which I have used to post album images in the Music thread, is now also only available to premium subscribers.  Have others noticed this?

I had already partly moved to PhotoBucket but had continued to use ImageShack for stuff I had already uploaded. But this latest move is for me this is the final straw.  Already uploaded images will be deleted and my account cancelled.  It's bad enough having to put up with intrusive advertising but paying for this irritation? No thank you!

That's not exactly what I am seeing when I log in via Safari from my Mac.  I can still get links to my pics.  However, when I log in via Safari from my iPad, the entire user interface has changed...and not for the better. It looks totally dumbed down, with no access to links or settings.

Will shoot them a note (from my Mac of course) and ask them what's going On. The FAQ (visible only from my Mac) says they support links for paid subscribers ($20/year).

Very annoying.  Unfortunately I am paid through March of next year. But unless this is fixed, I'll be exiting as well (which means, I suppose, that any post I've ever made to the Naim forum with an embedded link will then be broken). Bummer.

Take care using Photobucket.

Last night I checked out the Photobucket website from my laptop. I was advised, "to view the site I needed to upgrade my adobe flash player". Unfortunately I did so. Don't know if the flash player was upgraded, but google was replaced by another search engine, which I couldn't remove, plus pop ups appeared every few seconds.

This morning I opened an email from Photobucket from my PC, a webpage was opened by a company called Liveintent. I'm pretty sure this also happened on my laptop last night.

I've never had any problems like this with imageshack.

I find Flickr to be the least-worst photo-hosting site. I have happily paid a fee for many years for a site that does pretty-much everything I need. Hated the new interface, but used to it now. No ads. Nothing intrusive. Not happy that they are part of Yahoo, but waddya gunna do?

Thanks for the warning, fatcat. My browser is Safari which seems ok with Photobucket, though I too am plagued with pop-ups.

Another vote for Flickr here. It seems to be designed with photographers in mind.

I do also, occasionally, use Google for photo storage, but usually because I use Google drive a lot for documents, and if I need to incorporate a shot in a word doc it's just easy.

Microsoft Live is simple, but too much so.  So I always seem to go back to Flickr.

Also, their app for BlackBerry OS10 (a ported version of their Android app) is very easy to get on with and makes distribution/sharing an image an absolute doddle.

Hope this helps.

Before Hoopla (ie in the good old days !!!) ISTR that we were able to post pictures on this forum as an integral part of each post. No links were needed to a photo-hosting website, you just copied your picture and, presumably, the naim website held the picture in the same way as the website held any text.

Now, i'm sure that Naim must have been paying for that facility, and i'm just as sure that Hoopla could provide such an arrangement again if Naim so wished..............but at what price ??

Nope. We had to use hosting sites even before Hoopla.

I'm sure I can do a simple cut & paste of photo's rather than use a image hosting service.

As a test, is this image viewable ?

Yes. How do you do it?

Posted on: 22 July 2014 by Redmires

Open your photo/picture in the program of your choice (I use Irfanview). Press "ctrl c". Reply to this post and press "ctrl v".

This should paste the picture into the reply box. Depending on the size of the picture, you may need to make it smaller so it fits in the reply box. Select the corner of the picture and use mouse click to drag it and make make it smaller - like this (see red circle).

Hope this makes sense

Yes - I see that ok.

When I use Internet Explorer as my platform for accessing this Forum, I don't see Redmires' initial test piece. All I see is an empty white rectangle of the correct size and shape, with a small red "x" in a small square in the top left hand corner of the alleged picture.

However, with Firefox, I see Redmires' inserted picture in all its glory.

The other picture, eg winky's, I see in both firefox and IE
