Meicord Opal I have discovered my sense of direction

Posted by: Name on 25 July 2014

I've never been bothered with directionality of my meicord opal ethernet cables, Meicord state the cables are directionality but leave it to the user to decide. I've been blissfully ignorant, recently I was offered a home demo of chord store c stream which are directionality marked. Yes the c stream offered some improvements more detailed and open over the meicord but it wasnt a definitive beating.

This got me thinking what about testing the directionality of the meicord, so I decided to get off the couch and alter the directionality one meicord ethernet cable and a time....nas to switch, userve to switch and nds to switch. To my surprise I had it wrong, swapping the cable ends over bought more openness and provided more bass definition. I repeated the swap a number of times and each time I could pick a clear preference.

So if haven't given it a go, go ahead its a cheap upgrade.

My AudioQuest Cinnamon leads are marked for directionality, so no experimentation is required. It's interesting that other Ethernet cables are also directional - it makes perfect sense that they would be.

HH,

I'd be most interested why you think so.

I'm not saying they're not directional; I'd just be interested to know what you think is the reason for the directionality.

The reason is because Audioquest say so. Therefore other cables may work the same way.

What's the probability/likelihood of all of the cables being the wrong way around? Surely if each subsequent swap made an improvement then every one of your cables must have been the wrong way round when installed at random.

Better put your lottery numbers on! lol

No idea, but if speaker cables are directional, why wouldn't Ethernet cables be? They are all made of copper and silver after all. I don't really care, I just know that my cables make the music sound more enjoyable than bog standard ones.

Ethernet cables work both ways so one would assume either way you are shagged.

Sounds good to me!
