Suggestions after mining the forum
Posted by: Tom-in-Amsterdam on 10 August 2014
I have been mining the forum for albums to listen to and have discovered quite a few gems. Given that I (thoroughly) like:
Tales of us - Goldfrap
Aventine - Agnus Obel
Pale green ghosts - John Grant
God willin & the creek don't rise - Ray Lamontagne
Immunity - John Hopkins
Inform - educate - entertain - Public service broadcasting
I was wondering what the community would suggest as addendums to these fine albums?
Future Islands - Singles
White Denim - Corsicana Lemonade
Wild Beasts - Present Tense
All completely blew my socks off.
I guess my last few favourite albums;
Bill Callahan : Dream River
Nice Cave: Push The Sky Away
Real Estate: Atlas
These are all top quality but might not be to your tastes. If you like the Goldfrapp you might get the London Grammar album (and the XX too).
The Real Estate album is excellent. Possibly my favourite release this year.
Listened to the Real Estate album last night and that was quite good indeed. Will try the others in the next few days.
Thanks all.
Since I'm on a roll try out The War On Drugs: 'Lost In The Dream' and Kurt Vile 'Wakin on A Pretty Daze' for two top quality rock/guitar albums with a rather stoned feel. Might not float your boat but top drawer stuff.
Something totally different: 'Gem Club 'In Roses'. Slow, intimate and rich chamber-pop.
If you are enjoying Jon Hopkin 'Immuity' there is always the utterly fabulous 'Diamond Mine', a collaboration between him and King Creosote. Folk music that in my experience blows people away who'd never listen usually listen to a folk record! A big favourite on this Forum I know, and our most played album at home in the last 3 years according to the nServe app records. KC is the spectral voice on the two quieter tracks on 'Immunity' which have some of the atmosphere of 'Diamond Mine'.
It is fun sharing this stuff, tell us how you get on. I'm going to track down a couple you mentioned that were new to me too.

Bizarrely the Laura Marling album leaves me utterly cold!
Have fun
