Help required - Tracks duplicating on my Qute
Posted by: AlexWF on 10 August 2014
I have a UnitiQute which streams music from a WD My Cloud via my BT HomeHub. It's the same set up I've had for a while and I have not changed anything with it recently.
Suddenly though, almost all the music on the network drive is duplicated when you listen to it on the Qute, so when you bring up an album there is twice the actual number of tracks and every one plays twice.
I've loaded the drive up on my PC which is also connected to the same network and there is not actually any duplicates on there - they're simply appearing on the Qute.
Have tried restart of both Qute and NAS drive a couple of times.
Any ideas?!
When you say you've 'loaded the drive' on your PC, does that mean you're running a UPnP client on the PC, or just looking at the files and folders on the drive? Because this is almost certainly something that the UPnP server is doing, not the Qute.
Are you using n-Stream?
I understand you've not changed anything, but it's almost certainly whatever server is running on the WD My Cloud.
Get yourself a decent NAS and you won't have these problems. That's not meant to sound unhelpful, but the WD is basically rubbish.
The Hungryhalibut is exactly right. If you don't run a robust server, this stuff will just keep happening. It verifies my decision to rely on the UnitiServe. Yes it's not cheap; yes this stuff never happens.

Yes, all I did was browse the files on it.
I don't use n-Stream as I only have an Android phone.....
I appreciate what people are saying about the quality of the drive etc but I don't understand how something like this would randomly happen when it's been running no problem for ages?
The WD drive is actually almost brand new - I bought it to replace an older one that was too small.
I don't agree that the WD drives are rubbish. Yes people have issues with them and the number is high but that's because WD have a goodly market share and are perceived as 'cheap and nasty' because they are less expensive (on average)
I had a few days trouble with my NAS (a WD one) but the problem was not of WDs making, it was my PC being a mix of 'out of date' and my third party security choices causing conflicts. There are far too many variables. Looking at complaints about WD devices on other forums it became clear the biggest problem was a lack of end-user tech. knowledge, end-user patience, end-user instruction reading and manufacturer support training!
AlexWF, unfortunately I don't have much time this week for helping anyone but myself, but when you say "replace" do you mean "add new device to network, copy over files then remove old device" or "add new device, copy over files, leave old device on network"?

I simply unplugged the old drive and plugged the new one in! And then copied all the music over from my PC to the new drive. I don't use any of the software that came from WD, I simply used it plug and play - it appears as a drive on my network on my PC.
Sorry you say you stream from a WD device but the WD device is not physically on the network, it's hanging off a PC (that is attached to the network) via what (USB?)
What happens when you switch the PC off. What server(s) is shown in n-stream?

No, the WD NAS drive is connected to my router, and the Qute connects to the network wirelessly. Connection to the network for i-radio is all good and reliable. Only issue is when streaming from the drive.
Ok that's the same setup as my WD and Qute. Is the PC off now, and what device does n-stream display?
PS: I have no music on the PC, all my backups are stored remotely via a USB thumb drive.

The PC is rarely on when I'm listening to music and the drive comes up on the Qute display as WD My Drive or something like that - I'm not at home at the moment so can't check.
I don't use n-stream as have Android, I just use the remote directly with the Qute.
Ok thanks I might be able to help when you get back in, ive gotta get on with work too!
Hi Alex, the WD database can suffer from a minor hiccup every once in a while. Log on to the administration interface (http://wdmycloud.local/UI/) through a browser. I don't remember what it looks like exactly, but there should be a Settings menu or similar, then choose Rebuild Database or something to that effect. Shouldn't take long and your duplicates on the Qute should disappear.

Thanks for the advice.
Does this affect the files on the device at all? Do I have to re-copy them on to it afterwards?
No, the files will remain unaffected. My gf has a WD Mycloud -- I can find out which menu item it was tonight.

I have given this a go and it seems to have worked. Thanks very much for your advice, I really appreciate it.
Ok, great. I just check my gf's device: Settings > Media > DLNA Database > Rebuild ... But you seem to have found it already
exactly, just re-build the library and you should be ok .... sometimes it also helps refreshing the cash if your system is generating one

I'd love my system do that !
