Allman and Woman: What if...

Posted by: m0omo0 on 16 August 2014

I was indulging in this infamous album by Greg Allman and Cher the other day:

Allman and Woman, Two the Hard Way [1977]

It has been dubbed one of the worst record ever made. Well, it's not that bad (you still have Edith Massey running for the prize), but it sure is completely dull.

So I wondered: what if they did a second one now ? Their love affair is an ancient story, they're both old and hopefully they put that behind. How would that sound if they did it again ? How cool would that be if they just chose the music they loved, let it loose and went wild ?

How should they do it ? Should they go undercover and recruit a novelty post-dubstep British producer to compose new songs (think The Firerman) ? Should they go back to the sixties, or even earlier, and just do covers ? Should they enroll T-Bone Burnett ? Joe Henry ? Rick Rubin ? Nigel Godrich (just kidding) ?

What do you think ?

Gregg Allman hasn't had the best of luck this year, so maybe best left alone...

Naturally (as a man of taste) I steered clear of this particular horror, but must admit to having quite liked 'Laid Back', GA's solo LP from 1973.

I still haven't forgiven the ABB for cancelling their shows at the Rainbow in January 1974, after we'd queued overnight in the snow to buy tickets!

Well, it was not about him Dave, I just thought it would make for a funny thread, but here it goes... I didn't know he had a bad year, what happened ?

Don't you like Low Country Blues ?

Check out Gregg's autobiography some time. I'm not sure that he and Cher are on speaking terms.

I'm rarely shocked by anything, but reading this did it--stories of just what naive and mindless children the Allman Brothers and their band were...what some women will do to ride on a bus with a successful band...Gregg's decision after six marriages that maybe it's not for him...bizarrely shocking.

Pardon the thread drift.
