Asset UPnP

Posted by: The Pitt on 18 August 2014

Unity 2 , Macbook Pro I phone N-Stream App,

Some of my albums displayed on the app are ok but when I open ALBUM DETAILS ,
I get a completely different album, not even one that I own.

When I open a Bob Dylan album details  I get all of my " Best of "  albums.

Is this a Naim issue or an Asset UPnP problem ?

Any ideas.

Try and troubleshoot the issue by using another media player. Load up something like XBMC on your PC/Laptop/Mac and see what Asset is presenting. This should narrow down the source of the issue. If you see the same as that shown on your Uniiti, then you know it is on the Asset side.

I think this has come again recently.  I think it's to do with the meta-data on compilation greatest hits and perhaps working from just the title (?).  Have a look back through the threads.

Thanks for the help SB & Gavin B but I was hoping for a  simpler answer

I'm not quite that computer literate.

How long do you have asset?

is it on a PC or NAS?

is the problem intermittent?

the dBpoweramp asset forum is well patrolled by spoon and he will answer your query but the more information (both fuhrer and there)  the better.

Yes, this sounds more about Rovi.. The service that Naim uses in Nstream to provide additional info on the selected media.

it sounds like the media album title and/or artist slightly varies from what Rovi has and so when Nstream passes the details to Rovi, then Rovi returns different info.

i find this happens occasionally but only occasionally..short of renaming your album title and artist to actually match Rovi I know of no automatic solution.

Where is this 'album details' button? In nStream pressing 'info' brings up the Rovi database. If the wrong album is shown, which is very rare, clicking 'not this album' and finding the right one from the drop down list should sort it out.

Since april this year when the mac friendly  one was launched,

& no the problem is constant.

Yes I have posed this question on asset forum only today in fact.

Thanks anyway H P

On the N- Stream app  its the i that brings up album details which are for a different album

I have an info button rather than I. When you press it, can you find the not this album button?

Posted on: 18 August 2014 by m0omo0

Nigel, Info is on the iPad, I think. i is on the iPhone (at least on mine).

It happens to me sometimes. Phil explained that they use the artist and album name, so depending on your tagging, sometimes Rovi get its things mixed up. At this very moment, Bladik from Elton Dean et al. (including a Paul Rogers) returns The Best of Bad Company... Also if they can't find anything.

On the iPad, you indeed have a Not this album button. On the iPhone, I think all you have is the magnifying glass, but I never found how to make it return anything.

Unless I didn't understand the problem, this has nothing to do with Asset itself.

I have one album out of over 2,000 that doesn't get the correct info from Rovi. It's an album by Shahin Novrasli, which Rovi thinks is a Shawn Mendes album, whoever he may be.

I went to the Apple store and the assistant said it was a faulty app, I found that hard to believe

but he assured me ( he has a degree in computer science) that was most definitely the case.

So what can one do about that ? I ask.

I have a PhD and a food hygiene certificate, and assure you it's not the app.

Its annoying because I can't find a way to make the drop down & find the correct album stick.

It will stick as long as nStream remains on & the album playing,  but next session its back to wrong album.

Some albums are clearly confused

e.g.

Michael Bublé (with an ' over the e) is clearly a mystery to Rovi

Kate Bush "Aerial" has no obvious funny stuff but refuses to show its "Info" properly even after a 2nd & very careful rip.

NB: Michael Bubbles are not my albums

NB2:  I don't use Asset on my Synology

Phew! - glad to hear that

I only get half of my albums, so out of 250 I get about 10 incorrect album details on the N - stream on the I phone.

What do I do ? take my unity 2 back to the shop carry on waiting for answer to pop up.

I would be glad of a Michael Buble album if it had the correct album details !!

I'm not sure that I'm completely on topic, but I tried Asset, and abandoned it. I have several albums that it could not even find. Yes, ripped in iTunes to an iMac, streamed to router, wired to UQ1, for those that care or will complain about it. But the critical point is that Playback and ELyric could both find and play the albums that Asset could not find at all. So, the album and data was clearly there. Even if flawed, Asset does not have the capacity that other UPnP servers do have.

I had a number of message exchanges on the Asset forum, but frankly, it was not something I could be complementary about.

I know Playback is not longer produced, but it is the best UPnP server I've tried. And I am completely open to finding a current, fully functional, UPnP application.

Surprising,  I tried a shed load of upnp servers,  on PC to be fair before I settled on Asset which was far and away the best. I run it on my pc but have since bought an Assetnas which is perfect in that it is pretty invisible and just does its job. There is nothing on this planet that would persuade me to use itunes in any way

Posted on: 11 September 2014 by Damon

Well, not really surprising, at least in my experience. Which of course makes all the difference for each of us. Playback has a better interface, and is actually to find albums that Asset cannot. I don't disagree that much good effort has been put into Asset, but, Playback is clearly better, except that it is orphaned.

I'd never go to windows, on any planet either, so we're even.

But the OP's issue with Asset does not seem totally unrelated to my experience with Asset. I don't know where the 'fault' or problem resides. I know metadata is, or can be, tricky and it's also possible that some of the metadata on a CD is flawed.

Well, iTunes isn't (thankfully) a UPnP server so I can understand why you wouldn't want to use it as one. It just does its job as a player pretty much flawlessly for me.

Asset seems to be the only UPnP server that works with a Mac, I tried Allegro, it was like the car!

Asset gives me the artwork but things are a bit mixed up.

What is Naim's opinion on this?

I've never understood why UPnP was so difficult on the Mac, especially with iTunes integration. I thought Linn had a UPnP server out that may be worth trying ?
