Kate Bush BBC4: Just watched it and I was mesmerised.

i have always loved her music, so unique and with the ability to draw you in to total emotion,  wonderful.

Just wish I had tickets for her shows that  are about to kick off, so I am just going to do a quick trawl to see what I can find and afford.

I enjoyed that too.

Hopefully I've managed to tape this remotely.

It's her Irish blood that makes all the difference you know!

Great programme, fabulous talent. BBC always seems to find interesting extra stuff, that I certainly didn't know.

Saw her on her first tour and think we kinda fell out with one another. Too long a story.

Right.........

Being an antipodean long time fan kinda sucks,  oh well, we have local stuff you don't get i suppose.

It was a good doc - even the celeb talking heads weren't too vacuous. The Kate @ The BBC clip show that followed was even better - some amazing bits that I'd either forgotten or didn't even know existed.

Of course, it was interesting that the subject herself was completely absent.

Posted on: 23 August 2014 by GraemeH

The clips show was indeed even better. Lots I hadn't seen before.

Must put my first press CD rip of 'Hounds of Love' on. That's one where the subsequent 'remaster' is a crime against humanity.

Anyone have the 'studio master'? and is it worth it over the first press?

What a (mostly) load of banal drivel. It might edit down to ten, maybe fifteen minutes of gold if you took all the padding out. A wasted opportunity and even worse than their, for the most part, feeble tribute to Lou Reed.

Out of interest, how would you have done it?

Posted on: 24 August 2014 by Harry

I would have taken out all the fatuous me me me stuff, contributors who thought the viewer was so thick that it was their duty to explain Kate Bush to us and deleted contributions from people who by their own admission, did not know what they were talking about. I would have removed the banal and stupid Coogan segments and replaced his and Faith Brown's cheap and pathetic send ups with the rather clever yet vulgar Not The Nine O'Clock News lambast. I think that would amount to about 15 minutes. Maybe increase the lengths of the clips from PG and DG, JL seemed about right, add more archive footage of KB herself if available and maybe it would have gone to 20-25 minutes. If this is considered insufficient the makers should have asked themselves a rather obvious question.

That 'll be handy advice when BBC4 come knocking Harry.

LOL!  I won't hold my breath.

The talent must have gone somewhere. Look at all the top quality music related stuff that's come from the BBC, and recently too. I'm still waiting for the Imagine series on the guitar to be broadcast again, because I couldn't record it last time. And, flipping channels, what about that tantalising SBS clip of Gabriel on the Fairlight? I've only seen that show broadcast once in the 70s.

So much good stuff in the vaults (much of it made comparatively recently) and the BBC trot out this rubbish. Mind you, nice work if you can get it. We're going to play back a commercial video which Kate Bush fans will know and probably own. We want you to describe what you see to the viewer. Or perhaps you'd care to tell us when YOU first heard a particular single and what it did for YOU? Where do I apply?

I enjoyed it, but then I do like her a lot.

I am looking forward to the concert (19th Sept) more, I think, than any concert I have ever been to. Which of course runs the risk of it being an anti-climax, but somehow I don't think that's likely either.

I did read that she intends to perform The Ninth Wave in its entirety, and that'll be enough for me, everything else will be a bonus.

I could do without too much from 50 Words for Snow (and particularly a guest appearance from Stephen Fry), and my favourite part of Aerial has Rolf Harris on it, so this seems, er, unlikely.

I intend to try not to read the reviews tomorrow and subsequently, but I doubt I'll achieve it.

Graeme, I just bought the re-released 180g (marbled) vinyl of Hounds of Love from Burning Shed, as my original vinyl copy was knackered ages ago, and - like you - I always found the cd to be awful. The new vinyl is lovely - very quiet and like the original (to my ears).

Anybody see Kate Bush last night?

Posted on: 27 August 2014 by rodwsmith

I had avoided reading the reviews, but I saw the headlines.

Then I heard one on the radio which contained 'spoilers', but this was inevitable I guess and has increased the excitement level.

I really cannot wait!

The tickets were expensive, but from the sound of it, something of a bargain.

I have my flight booked, but am also planning the drive, just in case the Icelandic volcano decides to get in the way. Mad or what?

I like Kate Bush, I think she is quite unique but am I the only one that thinks she resembles Fiona Shreck?

Change the costume for a green one and hey Fiona, sorry maybe it's just me.

Sacrilege dear sir.   But I do see what you mean in that photo.

Went last night, front row, centre. Possibly, the best concert I have ever been to!

So lucky to get tickets to Kate Bush at Hammersmith Apollo. I've never seen such an incredible, emotional and truly amazing performance. I can use the word amazing and mean it. The whole audience were deadly silent throughout and I didn't see one phone camera go up. I think everyone was mesmerised. Hard to describe the shear brilliance unless you have been (or go), I now wonder if an artist standing there churning out hit after hit in front of me, is going good enough in the future. She's in a different class. Truly superb.

I am jealous, tell us more.....

It was the 7 tracks charting her slow death, that I wonder I'll ever see anything in a theatre as mesmerising. Stunned silence from the whole audience. I've also never seen 4,000 people come out the theatre and loiter. Girls crying. No one seemed to want to go home. This review is a good summary.    http://www.express.co.uk/.../Kate-Bush-at-London...

I sure hope her "Before the Dawn" concert will be released on DVD/Blu-ray.

One of the most extraordinary and wonderful nights of my life. I was especially lucky as I was in the front row, dead centre. i'm still floating a week later.
