Things are looking a bit rocky for Qobuz - according to Audiostream they've just filed for the equivalent of chapter 11 protection. Seemingly they have four months to raise the money they need to keep operating. google qobuz chapter 11 for more.
"The backup procedure in which was placed the company on August 19 Qobuz allows a healthy company to catch his breath during an observation period of several months. This time is utilized to replenish the treasury and make adjustments in the organization.
By definition, a limited backup is called "in bonis" and is not in default. So Qobuz continues its activity and functioning normally, pay suppliers and develops the whole of its services.
Since 2008, Qobuz has invested heavily to build an innovative French distribution platform for digital music streaming subscription and download.
This platform has the credo quality - sound quality, quality of documentation.
She ethics: respect for the artists and labels and will provide them with a creative business model value.
The distribution tool Qobuz is an independent tool - which defends the Francophonie and the European artists, alternative services focused on mainstream and controlled from the Anglo-Saxon countries directories. Innovative and technically.
End of 2013, Qobuz announced its internationalization plan by streaming a plan that continues this week with the opening of even download in eight countries: England, Ireland, Benelux, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland. This download offer in these countries is a unique offering in terms of quality and breadth of content, since Qobuz is the only service in the world to download "True CD Quality" on the entire catalog Majors and Independents and the largest catalog available 24 Bits.
For a music service online even segmented as is Qobuz, internationalization on a scale at least Mainland is a pre-requisite:
- To buffer the fixed costs are high anyway for a service online music market standards
- To offer electronics manufacturers partner coverage territory and therefore realistic business.
The reception given to Qobuz in the international press is remarkable, including even in countries where Qobuz is not yet open, as in the United States and Canada where it is definitely expected. The American magazine Stereophile comes, for example, to engage in a long and laudatory analysis of several pages Qobuz. There are also in France a real sound industrial sector, with hardware manufacturers which Qobuz is deemed complicit appreciated and effective.
Like all Start Up, Qobuz is constantly fundraising.
In difficult in France not only in general but especially in the field of online music where checklists are complex to understand for investors economic environment, it is difficult for a young innovative company to finance. This is the origin of the situation Qobuz to date and why Qobuz chose to backup procedure in place to better bounce."
Graeme, where did you get that from. As far as the 'chapter 11' story it all seems to originate from one source where the author admits they only have a limited understanding of the backup procedure and perhaps have come to the wrong conclusion.

i'm slightly despondent as a fan of electronic music that i barely recognise anything in that section - no early kraftwerk, t dream, schulze etc......doh! Can someone educate this old git as to what i should be listening to?
I don't know anything about qobuz (get my electronica d/l from Warp/Bleep) but I notice they have Luke Abbott, his Wysing Forest is like a 21st century cross between TDs Zeit & Phaedra. They have next to no Mika Vainio (he's the mutt's atm) so poor show qo! Deaf Center, Pjusk, Hecq (Ben Lukas Boysen), Autechre (they have!), Holden, Murcof, BoC, Susumu Yokota (lovely ambient), Ochre, Jon Hopkins, just shout if you need details or want recommendations based on your current taste/catalogue
So someone has put 2 and 2 together to come up with 5? In fact it would appear Qobuz is doing phenomenally well?
i wonder if this is a case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.... Anyway it appears that Qobuz Music Group SA are busy recruiting.. They seem to have a large number of job adverts.. That sounds positive to me.
I certainly hope that Qobuz continues to thrive. My downloads today are running very smoothly, and the Qobuz support team appears to be ultra efficient and friendly, and very quick to resolve any small issues I have had.
I'd be very sorry if they were to run into difficulties.
Emailed today asking for my code and the reply came in the hour. Code attached.
Until 31st August - hope that's inclusive as I'm away until tomorrow evening!

.....doing a bit better now having found Royksopp, Fever Ray and started clicking on similiar artists
